That day, Lin Fan went to class with Xiao Xiao, and Wang Dong came along as usual.
The lessons were not especially complicated. They had Theory Class and a knowledge-training session.
Lin Fan listened and studied carefully, though at times he had no desire to listen and nearly fell asleep.
Still, he was doing better than Wang Dong, who had sprawled across her desk with a book hiding her head, apparently thinking the teacher could not see her. Xiao Xiao, meanwhile, listened attentively and raised her hand to answer questions, every inch the eager student.
Before long, the day's classes were over.
After saying goodbye to Xiao Xiao, Lin Fan and Wang Dong headed back to their own dorm room.
Back in the dorm, Lin Fan and Wang Dong sat on their beds and cultivated their Soul Power together. They stopped at noon.
"Lin Fan, my Soul Power cultivation speed has taken another big leap! This is great!"
Wang Dong sprang to her feet in delight.
"Not bad."
Lin Fan flinched when Wang Dong suddenly stood up, then praised her.
"What about you, Lin Fan? Have you made any progress?"
Wang Dong looked down at Lin Fan with a grin.
"Me? My Soul Power Level is higher, so it's harder to tell, but I feel like I've made a little progress."
Lin Fan thought for a moment before answering.
"All right!"
Wang Dong sounded a little disappointed. Then her stomach growled. She rubbed it and asked,
"Lin Fan, are you hungry?"
"Not yet," Lin Fan replied.
Wang Dong climbed down from the bed and checked the snacks she had stocked beside her own. Her face fell.
"I'm starving... I've eaten all my snacks. Do you have any?"
Lin Fan rummaged around on his bed, picked up a bag of snacks he had bought a few days earlier, and said,
"I do! I've got a whole bag. Want some, Wang Dong?"
Wang Dong perked up. When she saw the bag in Lin Fan's hand, she quickly said,
"Yes! Can I have it?"
Lin Fan smiled.
"Nope. Call me big brother first."
Wang Dong clicked her tongue.
"Shameless..."
How could he be so shameless? He actually wanted her to call him big brother.
Lin Fan shook the bag of snacks.
"Well? Are you going to say it?"
"You, you, you!!! Big Brother Lin Fan~~"
Wang Dong was furious, but she looked at the bag, hesitated, and said it anyway.
"There, happy? Hurry up and give it to me."
This isn't a bad trade. Fine, I said it. It's just the two of us in the dorm anyway. Nothing to be embarrassed about.
Lin Fan grinned mischievously.
"Sure. That'll be a few dozen Copper Soul Coins, please. Not much."
"Lin Fan, you tricked me!"
Wang Dong bristled, but still took out a few dozen Copper Soul Coins and handed them over with a pout.
"There. Will that do?"
Lin Fan pocketed the coins, passed her the snacks, and smiled.
"Thanks."
Teasing Wang Dong was fun, but he could not keep it up forever. If he went on too long, she might really leap onto his bed and hit him.
Their beds were only a few steps apart. She could cross the gap in a single jump.
"Thanks, my foot. Tch..."
Wang Dong cursed, snatched the snacks, and went back to her bed. She opened a packet and started eating.
Lin Fan could only look helplessly at the girl before him. He could not beat her in a fight, so he had to swallow his frustration.
He smiled at Wang Dong. She immediately turned away, pulled her little blanket over herself, and kept eating, chewing loudly as if to announce she was angry and would not speak to him.
She was clearly still angry, but she would probably cool off soon, just like last time. He left her alone and rested.
When it was time to eat, Lin Fan and Wang Dong left the dorm and headed to the Cafeteria.
Wang Dong's anger had already faded, which surprised Lin Fan a little, but he did not dwell on it.
A few minutes later, they reached the Cafeteria. Each took a lunchbox and ordered a serving of rice with chicken and duck legs.
It was nowhere near as tasty as food from outside, but it would do.
Lin Fan and Wang Dong quickly finished eating, returned to the dorm, and lay down for an afternoon nap.
An hour and a half later.
Lin Fan slowly woke. Wang Dong was still asleep, so he went out to buy some snacks.
Half a minute later, he stepped out of the Dormitory Building and spotted Jiang Nannan walking toward him.
"Lin Fan!"
Jiang Nannan noticed him too. She raised a hand in greeting and smiled.
"Hello, Senior Jiang Nannan!"
Lin Fan greeted her.
"Mm, Lin Fan. Have you been keeping up with your cultivation lately? I am your cultivation instructor, you know."
Jiang Nannan asked lightly, her smile playful.
"Of course I have."
Lin Fan answered with a confident smile.
"I've been cultivating hard every day, Senior Jiang Nannan."
Surprise crossed Jiang Nannan's face, and she immediately asked,
"Then what's your Soul Power Level? Let me check whether you've been slacking off."
Lin Fan answered,
"My Soul Power is level 38."
"Level 38 Soul Power!"
At first, Jiang Nannan thought nothing of it. A moment later, she froze completely, then forced herself to appear calm.
"Level 38! Thirty-eight! Thirty-eight..."
Lin Fan's level is that much higher than mine? That's ridiculous. Does that mean I was protecting someone stronger than me before...?
Xu Sanshi probably couldn't beat him at all. Has Lin Fan really only been a student here for such a short time? The students this year are terrifying.
Lin Fan watched Jiang Nannan tremble, utterly baffled.
"What's wrong, Senior Jiang Nannan? Are you all right?"
Is she that surprised? I'd better give a lower number next time. Having such high Soul Power is a real headache~
Jiang Nannan suddenly looked up and gave an awkward laugh.
"I'm fine, I'm fine. How could anything be wrong with me? You're already level 38? That's amazing!"
I'm so jealous!
I wish I had Lin Fan's level too.
No, I should be happy for him. If he were my boyfriend, then wouldn't life be—
No, no. Lin Fan is younger than me. I'm his senior, and even if I'm also his cultivation instructor, how could I think like that?
Jiang Nannan looked as though nothing had happened.
Reassured, Lin Fan said, "Mm..."
Jiang Nannan smiled brightly and suggested,
"How about I teach you a set of boxing techniques?"
Lin Fan looked puzzled.
"Is it powerful?"
Jiang Nannan explained with a smile,
"Of course it is. This was the technique that made me famous. It's just that I've been practicing kicks, so... I've almost forgotten it now."
Lin Fan raised an eyebrow.
"Sounds mediocre. I'll pass."
Seeing that Lin Fan had no interest at all,
a spark of anger flared in Jiang Nannan's heart. She stepped up to him and spoke with a voice as gentle as water.
"That won't do, little Lin Fan~ As your cultivation instructor, I have to teach you~"
She took Lin Fan's hand.
Lin Fan stared at the angry Jiang Nannan.
Terrified, like a startled kitten, he asked,
"Senior Jiang Nannan, what are you doing?"
Jiang Nannan smiled at once.
"Teaching you boxing, of course! Come on, I'll take you somewhere."
