"Lin Fan, just let me copy yours! Please."
Wang Dong looked up at Lin Fan, her face troubled and her voice pleading.
"Nope. I'm not letting you copy it. You want to? No chance! Hahaha."
Lin Fan turned to Wang Dong, the corners of his mouth lifting in a mischievous grin.
"What do you want me to do before you'll let me copy it?"
After a moment's thought, Wang Dong pressed her lips together.
She knew what Lin Fan would ask her to do.
"Nothing. I'm just not letting you copy it. Hahaha! You need to learn to write your own answers, Wang Dong."
Lin Fan burst out laughing.
"I can't! Listening to the lesson makes me so sleepy! I can't write down what we covered today at all."
Wang Dong shook her head, looking utterly dejected. Then her eyes filled with tears as she begged him.
"Lin Fan, how could you treat me like this? We're roommates! Don't be so cruel. Have a heart and let me copy a little!"
She hadn't expected Lin Fan to refuse her outright. Usually, he asked her to do something for him.
"That's right, I'm this cruel. That's what you get for copying so much."
Lin Fan gave her a wicked grin.
"Lin Fan, you..."
Wang Dong froze, her face twisting as though a stone had struck her.
She hadn't expected Lin Fan to be so cruel.
She had to copy Lin Fan's work somehow, or Teacher Mu Jin would keep her after class today.
Her eyes suddenly lit up with an idea. She glanced down at Lin Fan's feet.
"Lin Fan, Xiao Xiao's pen fell by your feet!"
"Xiao Xiao's pen fell by my feet?"
Puzzled, Lin Fan bent down to look. There was nothing there.
"Wang Dong, are you tricking me?"
Wang Dong seized the opening, picked up her pen, and copied at lightning speed while answering in a flustered voice.
"No! I really saw it just now. Maybe Xiao Xiao already picked it up."
Lin Fan raised his head and caught Wang Dong copying his homework.
"Wang Dong, you tricked me!"
Wang Dong hastily stopped writing. She admitted it with a guilty little pout.
"Fine, I tricked you. I only copied a tiny bit anyway."
"Wang Dong, Lin Fan, quiet down. Don't disturb the other students."
Mu Jin called them out sternly, book in hand and anger on his face.
His voice rang out so suddenly that both of them tensed and fell silent. Only when Teacher Mu Jin resumed the lesson did they dare speak softly again.
"I can't believe I fell for that."
Lin Fan sounded impressed as he whispered.
"I underestimated you, Wang Dong. This time I'll cover it with my hand, then block your view too. Let's see how you copy it."
"Don't, Lin Fan!" Wang Dong wailed.
It's over. Lin Fan's serious this time. He's determined not to let me copy.
"Begging won't help. Let's see what you do now."
The corners of Lin Fan's mouth rose in a mischievous grin as he waited to see Wang Dong's reaction.
What do I do? What do I do? If only someone could copy Lin Fan's work for me!
At that thought, Wang Dong's face fell. She gave up on begging Lin Fan and sighed inwardly.
Wait—Xiao Xiao's right next to Lin Fan. I can ask her to help me copy it. Then I'll have the answers!
She immediately tipped her chair back a little, leaned over to look at Xiao Xiao, who was listening attentively nearby, and whispered,
"Xiao Xiao! Xiao Xiao! Xiao Xiao..."
Xiao Xiao leaned over, puzzled.
"What is it, Wang Dong?"
Wang Dong secretly passed her homework and pen to Xiao Xiao.
"Xiao Xiao, could you copy the homework on Lin Fan's desk for me?"
Xiao Xiao's eyes brightened. She took the homework and pen from Wang Dong.
"Sure."
Wang Dong was delighted.
"Mm-hmm!"
Now I can relax. With Xiao Xiao copying Lin Fan's work for me, I'll get the answers for sure.
A while later.
Lin Fan found it odd. He glanced at Wang Dong, who sat there perfectly at ease, and wondered,
Strange. Why isn't Wang Dong worried at all? She looked so anxious earlier. Has she decided not to copy it?
He put it aside and kept listening to the lesson, writing down what they covered today.
Fortunately, the material was simple. Lin Fan followed along easily and wrote it in his homework book without trouble.
Then he noticed Xiao Xiao watching him write.
He figured she had nothing else to do and paid it no mind, continuing with his homework.
But Xiao Xiao kept watching. Surprised, he leaned over to look and frowned when he discovered she was copying his homework for Wang Dong.
His eyes widened.
"Xiao Xiao, you're helping Wang Dong copy it!"
"Hehe, you caught me! Wang Dong asked for help, so I reluctantly agreed. Don't blame me, okay?"
Now that Lin Fan had caught her, Xiao Xiao smiled and handed the homework back to Wang Dong.
Lin Fan turned and watched Wang Dong take it, stunned.
"Wang Dong, you actually got Xiao Xiao to copy it for you!"
Wang Dong retorted helplessly,
"That's what I had to do when you wouldn't let me copy it. Besides, I've already got more than half of it."
"Lin Fan, Wang Dong, stand up. It's bad enough that you won't pay attention in class, but you're disturbing the students who are."
Furious, Mu Jin slammed his textbook onto the lectern and pointed toward the corridor.
"You two, go stand in the corridor as punishment. Come back to your seats after class."
Could those two be quiet for once? They've been talking nonstop, as if I can't see them.
The slam startled the whole class, including Ning Tian and Wu Feng. One by one, the students turned to look at Wang Dong and Lin Fan in confusion.
They couldn't understand why those two couldn't keep quiet, or why they had made Teacher Mu Jin so angry.
"Okay."
Lin Fan and Wang Dong were startled too. They glanced cautiously at Mu Jin, then looked away, answering in unison.
They traded resentful looks, each blaming the other, and walked slowly out the back door.
Off to the side, Xiao Xiao stifled a laugh as she watched the two bicker and flirt.
Lin Fan and Wang Dong left the classroom and stood in the corridor. Since their classroom was on the third floor at the end of the hall, they stood at the far end, where they could lean against the wall and still hear the lesson.
"It's all your fault, Wang Dong!"
Lin Fan glared at her.
"It's clearly yours."
Wang Dong turned her head away.
"At least you only copied a little more than half. I noticed Xiao Xiao didn't get to the rest."
Lin Fan smiled, his eyes gleaming with delight.
"No matter what, I'm not letting you copy the rest."
Wang Dong's face fell. She turned to Lin Fan, her eyes filling with tears as she begged him again.
"Don't, Lin Fan! Please, just let me copy it. The lesson made me sleepy today."
A glint flashed in Lin Fan's eyes, and he smiled teasingly.
"How about this, Wang Dong? If you can get the homework out of my hand, I'll let you copy it."
Wang Dong brightened at once.
"Really?"
Lin Fan nodded.
"Really."
Wang Dong grinned.
"Okay."
She hurried up to Lin Fan and shot out a hand to snatch the homework from him.
Lin Fan reacted at once, raising the homework high and leaning back. Wang Dong grabbed at empty air.
Unwilling to give up, Wang Dong reached for it with both hands, but Lin Fan kept moving the homework from side to side.
To Lin Fan's surprise, he had Wang Dong spinning in circles after it, leaving her furious and helpless.
