"You've already earned yourself a death sentence, you bastard! How dare you make a move on my Zhu Lu!"
An angry shout suddenly rang out behind them.
Lin Fan turned and saw a tall young man with twin pupils and long golden hair parted down the middle, falling on either side of his face.
He recognized him at once: Dai Huabin, the legitimate son of Dai Hao, the White Tiger Duke of the Star Luo Empire.
"Dai Huabin!"
Zhu Lu cried out, then said:
"Dai Huabin, let me introduce you. This is Lin Fan. I only met him recently, and he's a new student like us."
Dai Huabin grew even angrier.
"So you're Lin Fan? You dare make a move on my Zhu Lu? You've got some nerve!"
"You have no proof. We were just talking. Which eye saw otherwise, your left or your right?"
Lin Fan's voice was icy as he shot back.
"Hmph."
Dai Huabin gave a cold snort.
"I saw it with my whole damn body. You still want to argue?"
Zhu Lu stepped forward to defend Lin Fan.
"That's not what happened, Dai Huabin. We really were just talking, not flirting."
Dai Huabin pointed at Lin Fan, his eyes sharp with anger.
"Zhu Lu, this guy clearly has an ulterior motive. Don't let him fool you! He's trash!"
Zhu Lu said earnestly, "Huabin, don't call him names. He's kind. How could he be trying to deceive me?"
Dai Huabin laughed in fury, clenched his fists, and snapped arrogantly:
"I'll call him whatever I want! Kind? What a joke! I, Dai Huabin, won't be fooled by him! Lin Fan, you piece of trash, you made a move on my Zhu Lu without even considering who she belongs to! Die!"
There was hardly anyone around. They stood in a wide, open space.
Dai Huabin sprang forward like a leopard and whipped his leg down toward Lin Fan's head.
Lin Fan looked up at the descending kick and reacted at once, crossing his arms to block it.
Pain prickled through his arms under the force of the blow, but he shoved Dai Huabin away.
Dai Huabin quickly drew back his leg. Seeing that Lin Fan had blocked his kick, he sneered:
"Not bad! You blocked that kick. Maybe you're not trash—no, you still are!"
He grew serious and swung his arm, driving a punch straight at Lin Fan's head.
Lin Fan's pupils contracted. As the fist came at him, he thrust out his palm and pushed it aside. Dai Huabin's punch struck empty air.
Lin Fan sneered back. "Looks to me like you're the trash!"
He counterattacked at once, swinging his leg up and snapping a swift kick toward Dai Huabin's chest.
Thud! Dai Huabin failed to react and staggered back several steps from the heavy kick.
"How dare he! How can this guy react so fast?" Shock crossed Dai Huabin's face. He stared at Lin Fan in disbelief, then rushed him again.
Dai Huabin raised both fists and unleashed punch after punch at Lin Fan.
Facing the barrage, Lin Fan kept his breathing steady and his eyes fixed on the incoming fists. His arms flashed as he pushed each blow aside, deftly dodging while retreating.
Fortunately, whenever Lin Fan had nothing to do on the Douluo Continent, he had gone around looking for fights and picked up a few skills. Otherwise, that earlier punch would have sent him flying.
Panic stirred in Dai Huabin's heart as Lin Fan neutralized every punch. Is this guy cheating?!
He refused to believe it.
Under Dai Huabin's rain of blows, one punch finally landed on Lin Fan.
Tension kept Lin Fan from reacting in time. The punch sent him stumbling back several steps, pain spreading through his body as though a brick had struck him.
Dai Huabin scoffed. "And here I thought you were tough."
"We'll see who's tougher." Lin Fan's voice was cold as he darted toward Dai Huabin like lightning.
Dai Huabin's lips curled smugly. As Lin Fan rushed up, he threw a punch without hesitation.
Lin Fan twisted aside from the punch, spotted an opening, and immediately swept a kick into Dai Huabin's vulnerable spot.
Caught off guard, Dai Huabin's pupils contracted and his body trembled in fear. Before he could react, the kick sent him flying, and he landed facedown on the ground.
Lin Fan said nothing. His expression remained cold as he brushed away the dust he had picked up when his kick struck Dai Huabin's arm. The fight was over.
Zhu Lu hurried to Dai Huabin's side, bent down, and reached out to help him up.
Dai Huabin shook his dazed head, shoved Zhu Lu's hand away, and charged at Lin Fan with his fist raised.
Seeing that he still wanted to fight, Zhu Lu blocked his path and scolded him:
"Stop it, Huabin. We really were just talking. If you keep fighting, I'm leaving."
Still furious, Dai Huabin snapped, "Move, Zhu Lu!"
Seeing that she could not persuade him, Zhu Lu gave a cold snort. "Fine, keep fighting! I'm done with you."
With that, she turned, glanced at Lin Fan, and left without another word.
"Zhu Lu!"
Dai Huabin panicked. Watching Zhu Lu walk away, he gave Lin Fan a long look and clenched his fists. Then he turned and chased after her, calling:
"I'm leaving! I'm leaving, Zhu Lu! Don't walk so fast!"
Next time, he would have his revenge. He would also expose Lin Fan's reason for approaching Zhu Lu and make her see that the guy had an ulterior motive.
With the two of them gone, Lin Fan was left holding two sets of school uniforms, standing awkwardly in the wind.
"Ugh."
Lin Fan sighed and watched them leave, helplessness in his eyes.
They had agreed to go back to the dormitory together. How had they ended up leaving without him? He had no choice but to go alone.
Fortunately, he had learned that the student dormitory was behind the teaching buildings. It was the largest building there.
Lin Fan passed through the corridor between the white and black teaching buildings, bought his daily necessities, and soon the largest dormitory building came into view.
The dormitory covered an enormous area and was hard to miss. Its exterior bore the same colors as the four teaching buildings.
The colors clearly marked the living areas for students of the corresponding grades. The building stood six stories tall.
When Lin Fan reached the entrance to the white section, he noticed an elderly man sitting outside.
The old man wore plain gray clothes. Wrinkles lined his face, his eyes were dim and yellowed, and his eyelids drooped. He looked like a candle guttering in the wind.
He was half-reclined in a chair where the sunlight fell, sleeping comfortably.
Lin Fan did not disturb the old man's nap.
He knew the man was Mu En, whose Martial Soul was the Radiant Sacred Dragon. He was a Limit Douluo known as the Dragon God Douluo, and he also served as the Sea God Pavilion Master.
Lin Fan quietly passed Mu En and took out his dormitory key. It was marked with the number 100.
Following the number on the key, he went past Mu En to look for his dormitory.
Mu En slowly opened his eyes and glanced sideways at Lin Fan's retreating figure. He smiled.
"This child has good manners too. He passed quietly without disturbing an old man. Polite children like him and the one who greeted me earlier are quite rare."
As he spoke, several more new students strode past him, shouting at the top of their lungs.
