At that moment, Yan Shaozhe truly had a thousand fingers pointing at him in accusation.
Everything had fallen into place far too neatly—so neatly that no one would believe it was coincidence.
Yan Shaozhe might have grown up at Shrek Academy, but he had also spent years traveling beyond its walls.
His earlier rush to smear Huang Jinxu could well have been a thief shouting, "Catch the thief!"
"Imprison him. We'll decide what to do when Mu En wakes!"
Song Yunzhi's voice was grave as she delivered the final word on the matter.
After what had happened, no one wanted to help Yan Shaozhe restore his Martial Soul anymore. Keeping him alive was enough.
Even his wife, Cai Mei'er, looked at him with a trace more wariness.
"I..."
Yan Shaozhe had only just been revived by Zhuang Yusen and was barely clinging to life. At those words, he coughed up blood and fainted again.
"Little Xu, I know you've been wronged. But could we deal with Mu En's condition first? Once that's settled, we'll make sure you get justice."
Song Yunzhi spared Yan Shaozhe only a cold glance before turning away. When she looked at Huang Jinxu, her eyes were filled with hope and unease.
"I need to assess Mu En's condition before I can give you a definite answer."
Huang Jinxu did not sound particularly confident. He knew Mu En's condition was already as bad as it could get. For Mu En to have used the Sea God's Light in that state and not died on the spot was an enormous stroke of luck.
As for why this had happened at such a convenient moment, Huang Jinxu had his suspicions. He might have had something to do with it.
He had taken Huo Yuhao as his disciple, hoping to use Huo Yuhao's Fortune to hold back his own Heavenly Fiend Power. As a result, Huo Yuhao's Fortune as the Child of Fortune had not fully merged with Shrek Academy's, setting off a chain of consequences.
It now seemed that Xiaotao, like the Tang Sect, had been placed there to draw on Huo Yuhao's Fortune and ward off her own calamity.
Was the entire scheme really just meant to use Huo Yuhao's Fortune to strengthen the Tang Sect and Shrek Academy?
Huang Jinxu did not think it was that simple.
If his guess was right, that invisible hand meant to weaken Huo Yuhao's Fortune and siphon off a share of it, making him easier to control.
That would make Huang Jinxu someone's accomplice.
But such matters were beyond what someone at his current level should be worrying about. Even if he knew there was danger, was he supposed to do nothing?
"Qiuqiu, I've prepared all sorts of gifts for you over the years. Stay here for a while. Once this matter is settled, I'll come find you."
Putting those thoughts aside, Huang Jinxu took out a Storage Soul Tool and handed it to Nan Qiuqiu.
"Dad, go take care of what you need to."
Nan Qiuqiu knew her father had more urgent matters to attend to, and she answered with quiet understanding.
She had come here and learned that her father still cared about her and her mother. That was enough.
The other Titled Douluo of Shrek Academy were astonished. Nan Qiuqiu was Huang Jinxu's daughter? How had they never heard about it before?
Under the circumstances, though, no one tried to pry.
They also understood why Huang Jinxu had been so furious, and why he had struck Yan Shaozhe so ruthlessly.
The group then followed Huang Jinxu into the academy, to where Mu En lay.
Song Yunzhi sent Xuan Zi a telepathic message, telling him to stay behind. If Yan Shaozhe made any suspicious move, he was to kill him.
And Yan Shaozhe was not the only one under watch. Xuan Zi kept a close eye on his wife, Cai Mei'er, as well.
Yan Shaozhe's behavior this time had simply been too strange.
"There's even a trace of Huo Yuhao's Fortune left behind."
Huang Jinxu was surprised when he reached Mu En and examined him closely.
If not for that thread of Fortune wrapped around Mu En, bringing him luck and causing his soul to slip unexpectedly into a deathlike state that preserved him, he would have died long ago.
It was likely because Huo Yuhao had joined Shrek Academy and had come into contact with Mu En.
"Little Xu, how is he?"
The moment Huang Jinxu finished examining Mu En, Song Yunzhi asked urgently. Everyone else looked just as tense.
Mu En was far too important to Shrek Academy.
Huang Jinxu did not answer at once. He frowned, lost in thought.
Everyone's hearts leaped into their throats.
Seeing him like that, no one dared interrupt. They even softened their breathing.
Huang Jinxu was not toying with them. He was working out what to do.
Only after a long while did he look up at the group.
"It's worse than I expected. Even with the Primordial Bone-Shaping Pill and Elder Zhuang's help, we won't get the result we hoped for. A Pill that could have extended his life by ten years can now give him three or four at most."
Huang Jinxu had given them his answer.
The news that Mu En could still live another three or four years brought a wave of relief. But anger followed close behind.
"Damn Yan Shaozhe! Intentional or not, what he did is unforgivable."
"Ten years! A full ten years! Give Shrek Academy that long, and we could have raised the next generation!"
"Yan Shaozhe deserves to die!"
"..."
Some had previously thought it might be a misunderstanding, that Yan Shaozhe could still be forgiven. Now that they knew the cost, they wanted to tear the tendons from his body and strip the skin from his bones.
"Elder Zhuang, activate your Martial Soul and work with me."
Huang Jinxu did not join in cursing Yan Shaozhe. He meant to begin treating Mu En at once.
Three or four years would be enough.
He was confident he could reach the level of a Limit Douluo in that time. Perhaps then he could unravel the mystery of his Martial Soul. If even that was not enough, he still had a way out: move elsewhere and seek a path to godhood.
"Just tell me what you need me to do."
Without a moment's hesitation, Zhuang Yusen summoned his Martial Soul, the Tree of Life.
Rich life force spread through the room. Under Huang Jinxu's guidance, Zhuang Yusen treated Mu En's body in stages, refining the Pill's medicinal power and guiding it into him.
At the same time, Huang Jinxu gathered starlight and moonlight and used their power to purge the violent energy the Dragon Core had left in Mu En's body.
Time slipped by. When the first ray of morning sunlight touched the ground, Mu En slowly opened his eyes.
By then, Huang Jinxu and Zhuang Yusen were drenched in sweat.
Huang Jinxu looked especially drained. His strength and spirit seemed spent, his breathing unsteady, as though the treatment had hollowed him out.
Treating Mu En had clearly not been as easy as it looked.
Of course, Huang Jinxu was putting on half of that exhaustion.
The two remaining Hundred Thousand Year Soul Bones at Shrek Academy might not suit him, but he could give one to his daughter.
He only needed an excuse to get his hands on one.
