Background / History

Nan Shuishui was pursued in her youth by the man who later became the Holy Spirit Cult’s Third Elder, Nether Thunder Douluo. She rejected him and describes their relationship as being “fated to meet, not to be together.” When Nan Qiuqiu wonders whether he is her father, Shuishui dismisses the idea and says he could, at most, count as her uncle. Qiuqiu bears her mother’s surname; her father’s identity is not established in the supplied chapters 13 14.

Shuishui brought Luo Feng into the Earth Dragon Sect after finding the apparent orphan on the street. She suspected that he was unusual: despite frequently slacking off or sneaking food, his Soul Power continued to keep pace with the other disciples 3 4.

As sect master, she oversaw a valuable but difficult-to-exploit mineral vein beneath the sect’s grounds. Its guardian repeatedly drove her away, and even experts invited from the Body Sect failed to defeat it. The sect consequently spent years guarding resources it could not fully excavate 7 12.

She is shrewd about keeping talented disciples close. After seeing Luo Feng’s unusual Soul Rings, she grants him access to the sect’s greatest resource, hoping to secure both her daughter’s future and the sect’s protection. She later frames his share of the mineral output as wealth that will ultimately remain within the family 4 5 7.

Her discretion has limits when secrecy threatens the sect’s safety. She initially avoids investigating Luo Feng’s hidden abilities, but his public display of a hundred-thousand-year Soul Ring prompts a private interrogation. Her concern is that such conspicuous power will attract scrutiny they cannot simply conceal 4 7 12.
