Background / History
Wu Siduo’s upbringing
Wu Siduo heard her elders discuss Tang Wulin’s exceptional talent at Eastsea Academy from childhood. These accounts inspired her interest in fighting against—or alongside—him. Her family also informed her about his background, initially encouraging her to maintain the reserve expected of someone from a prominent household 104 126.
The family’s restrictions remained an obstacle to Wu Siduo’s romantic ambitions. When Gu Yue offered to support her relationship with Tang Wulin, Wu Siduo accepted partly because she hoped that support would help her overcome those restrictions 128.
Forced marriage dispute
The family later pressured Wu Siduo into a marriage alliance intended to consolidate its position. Refusing to marry someone she did not love, she sought Tang Wulin’s help. He agreed to assist her, and they traveled to the ancestral estate; during the journey, she asked him to pretend they were deeply in love 391 392.
At the estate, senior elders and Wu Siduo’s father, Wu Canglan, confronted the visitors. Canglan initially frowned at Tang Wulin’s presence but reacted sharply upon sensing his formidable aura. The grand elder dismissed Tang Wulin’s opposition and summoned the Star Luo Empire’s second prince, Dai Luoxing, expecting royal authority to settle the dispute 393 394.
Dai Luoxing arrived with gifts and treated Wu Siduo as his intended bride. She rejected his claims of childhood intimacy and insisted that she barely knew him. When he ordered his guards to seize Tang Wulin, Dai Yueyan intervened, recognized Tang Wulin as his friend, and rebuked his brother for attempting to force the marriage 394.
Ancestral intervention and compensation
Dai Mubai and Zhu Zhuqing’s arrival overturned the family’s reliance on imperial connections. Dai Mubai introduced himself as the legendary White Tiger Douluo and Tang Wulin and Tang Wutong’s elder uncle, leaving the grand elder and Dai Luoxing shaken. Tang Wulin nevertheless insisted that the elder’s conduct still required accountability 395.
Tang Wutong explained the forced marriage to Dai Mubai. He subsequently ordered Dai Luoxing to give the Wu family half the resources under his name for fifty years as compensation for his forced entry and attempted forced marriage. The prince surrendered contracts, private-treasury keys, and mineral-vein mining rights at Wu Canglan’s feet 396 397.
