He entered the game once more.
Lin Feng looked up at the sky and stopped moving.
Going forward meant death, and staying here meant death. Unless he figured out how to break out of this predicament, traveling was pointless.
He had tested it. If he stayed here too long, [Sword Heart Clarity] and the wind would warn him that danger was approaching.
That meant the second-stage Blood God he had seen was pursuing him from behind.
He climbed to a high point, looked into the distance, and said, "The road is cut off."
The guide lost heart and slumped to the ground.
Lin Feng pointed toward the path. "Lord Zhu, go that way with him. Lend him some medicine to rub on his body."
"It's going to rain soon. The rain in these mountains is unnatural. Take the map and shelter at the Jixi Inn.
"If you don't have money, just wait a while. Someone might turn up to pay the bill."
Lin Feng added that last remark, though he did not know whether these people in the game were real.
But saying it made him feel better.
Lin Feng said he would cover their retreat. Lord Zhu glanced at him, cupped his hands in salute, then dragged the guide away.
Reliable Lord Zhu.
Lin Feng returned an awkward bow, then sat cross-legged without caring about the mud on the ground and entered meditation.
He wanted to know exactly what support [Mountain God’s Power] could provide.
His consciousness drifted out with the wind. Lin Feng felt that the surrounding mountains were friendly toward him, the kind of friendliness reserved for one of their own.
When he wanted to absorb the wind, it came to him of its own accord, gentle and obedient.
But that alone was not enough. He had little time to cultivate here. Besides, Lin Feng did not know whether reaching the Qi Nurturing realm through cultivation outside would carry over and strengthen him inside the game.
Barely more than twenty-four hours had passed since he acquired the game.
Cultivating outside was nowhere near as fast as earning rewards by clearing stages in the game.
Breathing in, breathing out, Lin Feng tried calling to the mountains. It was the same sincere call he had made the first time he entered meditation, searching among all the spirits of heaven and earth for those willing to stay with him.
The wind had chosen him.
This time, he did the same, asking the mountains who would be willing to help him.
He wanted to face a powerful enemy.
Lin Feng felt someone speaking to him. After he asked for help, he sensed a change in the wind around him.
Wood Spirit.
Lin Feng felt the blessing of the Wood Spirit. Thriving vitality emerged from the Western Hunan Mountains. Their vegetation was lush, and after sensing his call, flowers, grasses, and trees alike chose without hesitation to help him.
Lin Feng had no intention of commanding them. He was asking for their help as an equal.
His consciousness began spreading endlessly. Throughout this forest, he felt as though all the trees had come alive and were sending vitality into him.
Lin Feng's consciousness also traveled along these trees into the distance.
Birds flew toward him from deep within the forest.
Deer emerged, and so did goats.
Wild pheasants and rabbits came fluttering and bounding out.
Herd after herd of ill-tempered wild boars appeared. Farther away, several tigers hid among the trees, watching him.
Yet none of them fought.
The leopards had not arrived. Lin Feng could sense still more animals approaching, and he stopped them.
The wind rustled the leaves. Sensing the Mountain God's will, those animals came no closer.
Lin Feng also saw Hundred-Household Officer Zhu and the guide heading deeper into the mountains. He brushed a layer of light over them.
They noticed nothing.
Around Lin Feng, animals from every level of the food chain had actually suppressed their instincts for the moment and settled obediently to one side.
But when his consciousness crossed a certain line, Lin Feng sensed it rapidly dissipating. More than that, another presence like his own charged toward him.
He saw an enormous snake!
Not a python, but a venomous snake!
It was an Ironhead Viper, a common sight in these mountains!
Its body was as thick as a truck, its dull scales like armor. It had long since become a spirit creature!
Raising its forebody, it reared up.
With the Wood Spirit's help, Lin Feng's consciousness had just passed through the nearer mountains and reached Bull-Head Mountain, where Bull-Head Stockade stood. He had crossed the boundary!
Across all the mountains of Western Hunan, the Mountain God worshipped in the Clear Spring Village Shrine could actually control only one small corner!
Its eyes were bloodshot, and it radiated an utterly vicious aura. On the venomous snake's head, it was plundering a Shrine!
Lin Feng saw that the statue on the snake's head depicted a Mountain God.
The statue was covered in blood, as though it had been thoroughly steeped in it, inside and out.
One of the Ironhead Viper's scales was missing, and the statue was sinking into its flesh!
"Get out!"
The false Mountain God spoke viciously, and Lin Feng could understand its words!
Lin Feng had encroached on someone else's territory!
The venomous snake had no interest in propriety or honor. If it had not feared that they would both be injured, it probably would have attacked him on sight!
Their auras collided violently. Lin Feng withdrew his presence and returned his consciousness to his body.
Vast amounts of vitality poured into his lungs, tempering his internal organs, muscles, and bones along with them.
His aura climbed higher and higher.
The Mountain God's Power blessed him.
Lin Feng felt a little wronged. If I'd known this was how to use the Mountain God's Power...
He felt as though his feet were the roots of an ancient banyan tree, constantly drawing vitality from the mountains of Western Hunan.
Could it be...
Were those banyan trees at the entrance to the [Clear Spring Stockade Forbidden Ground] actually the Mountain God's guardians?
Had the Grand Elder realized he was afflicted with gu and carried the Mountain God from the Shrine into the Forbidden Ground, hoping to save his own life?
But he had failed.
Why had that banyan tree devoured its master at the very end?
Had it lost control?
Lin Feng opened his eyes and once again felt that prickling sensation along his back.
This time, however, it was not as intense as the first time he had felt it on that narrow path.
That was because his strength had also been steadily rising.
Lin Feng opened his eyes. The wind brought bad news, and he spotted the second-stage Blood God approaching in the distance.
Its shape was grotesque.
Its entire canopy had turned blood-red, and its roots had become feet that walked across the ground.
The corpses hanging from its aerial roots were not just those of the Thousand-Household Commander and the Embroidered Uniform Guard. The dead villagers of Clear Spring Stockade had also become puppets. Their bellies were grotesquely swollen, and some burst along the way, scattering insects across the ground.
Intestines, bellies, hearts, livers, spleens, stomachs, and kidneys hung exposed, with flies circling them.
More horrifying still, the faces of the Mountain Gods that Lin Feng had seen when receiving the Mountain God's gift were seared into its trunk in agony, uttering strange delirious murmurs.
The puppets were the same. Like devout worshippers, they muttered something under their breath, their demonic voices flooding his ears.
The wild boars, tigers, pheasants, and even the rabbits charged toward the Blood God without hesitation, but Lin Feng stopped them.
He stood up and walked toward the Blood God.
The Embroidered Uniform Guard's Dragon-Tiger Qi, combined with the Mountain God's furious critical strike—and more importantly, Lin Feng opened his mouth and exhaled a breath that became a gale, slashing toward the Blood God like blades!
The Blood God did not belong to the Western Hunan Mountains!
Time for the boss fight. Blood God, die for me!
