The room really did look different from before.
At the very least, it looked a lot more horrifying.
While he was dancing.
Many of the movements had been too difficult. Lin Feng had torn his muscles, and his skin had bled too.
Blood had pooled beneath his feet from the tears in his skin, leaving a tangled mess of bloody footprints.
There was blood in Lin Feng's nostrils and at the corners of his mouth. Some had dried into crusts.
He certainly looked rather primitive and savage.
Through the open window, a fierce wind had swept through the entire room. When Lin Feng had stomped on the floor tiles in his slippers, the tiles had shattered too.
And that wasn't all.
Lin Feng felt an itch on his skin. He scratched it, and guess what happened?
A fully grown, living man had started shedding his skin!
One tug peeled off a huge strip of dead skin.
The whole room was a mess of displaced furniture, papers and books flying everywhere, with broken tiles and bloody footprints covering the floor.
Anyone who didn't know better would have taken one look and thought it was the Sledgehammer Killer's murder scene!
Horrifying.
Of course, the wounds on Lin Feng's body had healed too, at an unbelievable speed.
But he wasn't in the mood to examine himself and see exactly what changes had happened to his body.
He had more important things to do.
Lin Feng clapped his hands, glanced at himself in the mirror, and hurried to clean himself up and tidy the room.
Everything else could wait.
Never mind how likely his landlady was to boil Lin Feng in her wonton soup once she heard what he had done to her apartment.
Just looking at the state of the place, Lin Feng felt that if anyone came knocking and saw this scene, nothing he said could ever clear his name.
That would be trouble.
The first sign that something was off came when he looked around. Lin Feng felt some inexplicable emotions around him.
He didn't dwell on it.
But he knew it wasn't normal.
That was strange in itself.
People sensed the emotions of other people or living creatures by interpreting their expressions, tone, movements, and so on.
But in Lin Feng's apartment.
He was the only living thing.
There wasn't even a cockroach.
He had killed all the cockroaches.
Where could those emotions have come from in a place where he was all alone?
Wasn't that completely absurd?
Among Lin Feng's neighbors, someone finally came to, trembling all over.
Not everyone had gone to work at this hour.
Some of Lin Feng's neighbors worked nights, while others didn't work at all. They had woken when he stomped through the floor tiles, but before they could launch into a colorful, rapid-fire tirade to vent their frustration, that ancient sound, carrying a strange desolation, had reached their ears.
There had been footsteps too. Lin Feng had thought his footsteps were like a device meant to shake the building.
In reality, that wasn't the case.
Lin Feng's Sacrificial Chant and Sacrificial Dance had come from every direction.
Everyone who heard the sound had fallen into a state of so-called "mass hysteria."
To put it more accurately.
It was more as though they had all eaten undercooked poisonous mushrooms from the same pot.
They had all hallucinated.
Whatever they had seen, they forgot once they came to.
But after waking, every one of them felt as though a lifetime had passed.
They felt that the world around them had become rather abnormal.
Eventually, someone called property management, while others chattered away in the group chat.
It was quite a commotion.
Meanwhile, the culprit, Lin Feng, was using his superhuman stamina to do housework.
Mop, cleaning cloths, alkaline cleaner, air freshener, unopened home fragrance—he used them all!
There was a robot vacuum in Lin Feng's rented apartment. Technology changed lives, especially for someone as lazy as him. But now that he had begun cultivating, he cleaned faster, more thoroughly, and more nimbly than the robot.
He was a master at cleaning floors!
The obvious advantage of doing it himself was efficiency!
By the time property management came to investigate.
Lin Feng had already cleaned up the "crime scene." Anyone who entered would have had no idea that the place had looked like a gruesome murder scene just moments ago.
Even the shattered floor tiles had been covered with a rug.
When he opened the door, the property management staff saw only a neat, tidy home and a fair-skinned, sunny-looking young man.
He positively brimmed with vitality.
"You're Lin Feng, right? Did you hear any strange noises?"
Since they weren't sure where the sound had come from, and the callers couldn't identify its source either, they could only search within a general area.
Lin Feng spent quite a while explaining things to them, with plenty of hums and ahs.
He cleared things up.
The older woman gave Lin Feng a few extra looks, craning her neck at the doorway to peer into the apartment several times.
There was no activity inside.
At first, Lin Feng's gaze went a little blank as he stared at the older woman holding the registration sheet. But he quickly snapped out of it and smiled at her.
The older woman: "?"
Naturally, Lin Feng wasn't going to tell her.
He had deliberately used a skill on her.
Qi-Observing Eye.
[Type: Human] [Fortune: Gray-white] [Threat level: None]
The information that suddenly appeared before his eyes was what Lin Feng had seen using the Qi-Observing Eye.
Type, fortune, threat level?
Lin Feng looked at the younger woman beside her next.
Using the skill with complete focus made his gaze a little too sharp, almost intrusive.
The young woman grew uncomfortable.
She didn't particularly like that sort of gaze. It made her heart race.
It was too overbearing.
She coughed softly, but Lin Feng showed no reaction.
The older woman coughed twice as well, and only then did Lin Feng come back to his senses.
[Type: Human] [Fortune: White-red] [Threat level: None]
White-red?
Lin Feng could understand gray-white, but white-red? What color was white-red?
White was white, and red was red.
After seeing them off, Lin Feng sat on the sofa and thought things over carefully, then looked at himself in the mirror.
A little over half an hour of ritual had made his body stronger again.
Qi gathering also nourished his body.
Gathering fifteen strands of qi and turning them into mist meant reaching the eighth rank. The problem was that, at his current rate of qi gathering, his lungs would digest the qi and spread it throughout his body to nourish it. So progressing from the ninth rank to the eighth actually meant gathering qi into his lungs, then using his lungs to nourish his entire body until it reached the eighth rank. Only then could his lungs accumulate enough qi to turn it into mist.
Now, however, Lin Feng had two engines running: his skin could absorb it on its own.
He could clearly feel that when the qi in his lungs nourished the surrounding tissues, his other organs, muscles, and fascia absorbed it more slowly.
They had all had their fill.
Their need for nourishment from his lungs had therefore diminished.
In other words, if he gathered qi now, he would do it faster.
He would reach the eighth rank sooner.
His ability to heal after an injury should have improved too.
His skin's toughness was still nothing special. It wasn't as though a knife could no longer cut it.
As for his other powers, Lin Feng could only feel some additional emotions around him. Figuring out what those emotions were remained beyond him.
It was a strange feeling.
As though there were many invisible friends around him.
Not ghosts.
Lin Feng could see ghosts. These things, however, remained invisible even when he entered a meditative trance.
For now, he had no idea how the steps to godhood actually made one a god.
But Feasting on Wind and Drinking Dew really could speed up his cultivation, provided he didn't use it inside an apartment building.
Lin Feng pondered Feasting on Wind and Drinking Dew, then checked the time.
There were still over twenty minutes before he could play the game again.
He still had time.
Lin Feng hurried downstairs and ran to the hospital in the sweltering heat, where he wandered around the inpatient wards.
[Type: Human] [Fortune: Gray-white] [Threat level: None]
[Type: Human] [Fortune: Black-white] [Threat level: None]
[Type: Human] [Fortune: Gray] [Threat level: None]
They were all gray-white, with the seriously ill showing black-white. He didn't see any white-red.
He took a taxi to the entrance of the Yamen and squatted there, drinking herbal tea.
[Type: Human] [Fortune: White-red] [Threat level: None]
[Type: Human] [Fortune: Red] [Threat level: None]
[Type: Human] [Fortune: Vermilion] [Threat level: None]
Lin Feng began to understand.
The deeper the color of a person's fortune, the better.
Except for black.
White, gray, and a mixture of white and gray were all the fortunes of ordinary people and unlucky souls.
Deeper colors, such as white-red, red, and vermilion, belonged to luckier, more successful people. Did that mean the young woman would pass an exam and move on to something better? Or was she about to come into money?
At that thought, Lin Feng stood up.
Then what was my fortune?
Just as he thought that, without warning, a stabbing pain shot through his head, as though a needle had pierced it.
He had used his skill without restraint.
And now he was paying for it!
