Yan Wen found a Chinese restaurant laid out like an inn from a historical TV drama.
The restaurant had two floors, with tables seating anywhere from two to eight people. The round wooden tables were lacquered vermilion, and an arched screen divided the restaurant into two sections.
The furnishings behind the screen were more lavish than those outside.
A few scattered tables were occupied. The servers bringing out dishes wore coarse linen clothes and felt hats, looking exactly like inn attendants in historical dramas.
Even the way they spoke was the same.
A server came over to greet them. "Honored guests, we have plenty of tables available. Where would you two like to sit?"
Yan Wen looked around and pointed to a table for two beside the railing. "Let's sit there."
"Right away! What would you two like to eat?"
"It's our first time here. Could you recommend something?"
The server brought over a menu. "Honored guests, have a look. Our best-selling dishes are Buddha Jumps Over the Wall, Clear Broth Shark Fin, and steamed Leopard Coral Grouper."
Yan Wen flipped through the menu. "We'll have those three, then, and a serving of Jujube Blossom Pastry."
"Certainly! Please wait a moment, honored guests. Your food will be out shortly!"
Yan Wen filled two teacups with water. "For a second, I thought I'd traveled back in time. Even the kettle looks exactly like something from ancient times. Is the owner a die-hard fan of historical dramas?"
Mo Chengzhou accepted the water Yan Wen offered him and took a small sip. "This is my first time at a restaurant like this. It feels... quite extraordinary."
"Same here. If we changed into period costumes too, it would be perfect."
