Mu Qingyan picked through the food in her bowl with her chopsticks, her face betraying no particular emotion.
She had never expected much from romance, nor had she ever liked anyone. She had agreed to marry Sima Xian simply because he seemed like a responsible man and had a good reputation. Mu Qingyan had thought that, even if they were not a loving couple, they could at least treat each other with respect.
She had never imagined that Sima Xian harbored such sordid intentions, scheming against her for that girl. If they actually married and Sima Xian brought the girl into their home, she could well imagine what people would say about her.
Mu Qingyan tightened her grip on her chopsticks. Sima Xian wanted to use her? He was nowhere near capable enough.
"What's that girl's name? How did she meet Sima Xian?" Yan Wen asked.
"Her name is Sun Mian. She was working part-time at a five-star hotel when Sima Xian happened to attend a gathering with friends there. He was touched by how innocent she seemed, and then, for some inexplicable reason, he fell for her."
"Innocent how?"
"Sun Mian threw out the dishes as garbage. When the manager scolded her, she cried and said she hadn't known they were meant to be served. Since the food trolley had been left outside, she'd thought nobody wanted the dishes, so she'd dumped them."
Yan Wen was stunned. "Is she an idiot? Who puts unwanted food on a food trolley? And that made Sima Xian fall for her? How sheltered is he? Does he never look at his phone? He saw an idiot for the first time, found her fascinating, and fell in love."
Xiao Qi nodded. "Yes, exactly!"
*"No wonder he likes her. Sima Xian isn't much smarter himself.
