"Thank you, class monitor," Wu Yueyue said shyly. "The other question I struggled with was the final, hardest question on today's exam. It asked about the effects of sandstorm weather and every situation in which a Pokémon wouldn't take weather damage during a sandstorm."
Zhang Cheng had already guessed that Wu Yueyue would ask about this question. High school students currently had only a basic understanding of weather effects.
Answering questions about all the specific situations under different weather effects was still quite difficult.
"Once a sandstorm starts, it deals damage equal to 1/16 of a Pokémon's maximum HP at the end of each turn. Rock-type Pokémon also have their Special Defense increased to 1.5 times its normal value."
"Pokémon with the Sand Force Ability gain a 30% power boost to their Rock-, Ground-, and Steel-type moves, and they don't take sandstorm damage."
"Pokémon with the Sand Veil Ability gain a 20% increase in evasion, and they don't take sandstorm damage."
"Pokémon with the Sand Rush Ability have their Speed doubled during a sandstorm."
"Those are the effects of sandstorm weather. If you can't remember them all, I can send you these points on your phone later," Zhang Cheng told Wu Yueyue, who was studying attentively.
"Okay, thank you, class monitor. Your explanation was really detailed. I'll make sure to remember it," Wu Yueyue said quickly.
"Next, I'll explain the conditions for avoiding damage during a sandstorm. This part is a little more complicated," Zhang Cheng said, gathering his thoughts.
A Pokémon would not take damage from sandstorm weather as long as it met one of the following four conditions:
1. The Pokémon was at least one of the following types: Rock, Ground, or Steel.
2. The Pokémon had one of the following Abilities: Sand Force, Sand Veil, Sand Rush, Magic Guard, or Overcoat.
3. The Pokémon's held item was Safety Goggles.
4. The Pokémon was in the underground phase of Dig or the underwater phase of Dive.
There was one additional point: some moves had their effects altered by sandstorm weather.
Solar Beam and Solar Blade had their power multiplied by 0.5.
Synthesis, Morning Sun, and Moonlight could restore only 1/4 of maximum HP.
Weather Ball became a Rock-type move, and its power doubled.
After hearing all that, Wu Yueyue was somewhat dazed. Clearly, this amount of information was a little more than she could handle.
"There are a lot of things to learn about weather effects. You definitely won't learn them all at once. Once I send you my notes later, you can take your time studying them," Zhang Cheng said, noticing her expression.
Wu Yueyue felt that the atmosphere had become a little intimate. A boy and a girl spending the evening together in a small grove—it felt a little odd no matter how she looked at it.
"I understand. Thank you so much, class monitor. Those were all my questions. If there's nothing else, I'll head back now," Wu Yueyue said, blushing.
"Sure, no problem. See you tomorrow," Zhang Cheng said with a wave.
After saying that, Wu Yueyue stood up to return to her dorm, but she suddenly remembered a question that had been troubling her for a long time.
After a brief hesitation, she still asked Zhang Cheng, "Class monitor, there's something else I'd like to ask you about. Is that okay?"
Zhang Cheng, who had been about to get up and leave, turned back to look at Wu Yueyue. This girl really is full of questions.
"Of course. As class monitor, it's perfectly normal for me to help out a girl in my class," Zhang Cheng said, easing her embarrassment.
"Well, my Pokémon is an Eevee. You know that, right, class monitor?" Wu Yueyue continued.
"I do. You probably want to ask which evolution to choose for Eevee, right?" Zhang Cheng immediately saw what was on her mind and said it outright.
"Wow, you even knew that? You're so smart, class monitor," Wu Yueyue said in surprise.
"It's actually pretty easy to guess. When it comes to Eevee, what Trainers care about most is naturally which evolution to choose."
"Each of Eevee's evolved forms has its own strengths. You should also choose based on the type you personally prefer as a Trainer."
"If you want to build a Fire-type team, evolving Eevee into Flareon would definitely be your first choice."
"If your team needs an Electric-type Pokémon, evolving Eevee into Jolteon is also an option."
"It mainly depends on which Pokémon type you need," Zhang Cheng answered simply.
"I don't know what type of Pokémon I need yet. I want Eevee to evolve into something prettier."
"Uh..." Wu Yueyue's answer caught Zhang Cheng off guard, but he soon realized it was perfectly normal.
As a new Trainer, she naturally had no understanding of planning her future team yet, nor had she given such matters any thought.
And girls loved beautiful things, so of course she wanted her Pokémon to be pretty and cute.
With that in mind, Zhang Cheng told Wu Yueyue, "In that case, Sylveon would probably suit you best."
Sylveon had a beautiful appearance, and evolving into one didn't require an Evolution Stone.
That would also save her a substantial sum. The League's official price for Evolution Stones was five hundred thousand Pokémon Coins apiece, making them rather expensive luxury items.
"Sylveon?" Wu Yueyue asked in confusion. "Eevee has an evolved form like that?"
"The League only discovered Sylveon in the last few years. It's a new evolved form of Eevee. You can find pictures of Sylveon online."
As he spoke, Zhang Cheng showed her a picture of Sylveon he had found on his phone. "This is Sylveon. I think you girls would really like this kind of Eevee."
Wu Yueyue was stunned when she saw the picture of Sylveon. She clearly hadn't expected there to be such a beautiful evolved form of Eevee.
"How do you evolve Eevee into Sylveon?" Wu Yueyue asked, her eyes shining.
Sure enough, no girl can resist Sylveon's charm, Zhang Cheng thought.
"The first condition for evolving Eevee into Sylveon is a high level of friendship between Eevee and its Trainer."
"After meeting the friendship requirement, Eevee needs to learn a Fairy-type move. Once both conditions are met, Eevee can evolve into Sylveon."
After explaining Sylveon's evolution requirements, Zhang Cheng also reminded Wu Yueyue, "Before Eevee evolves, make sure not to take it near a Mossy Rock or an Icy Rock. That would affect which form Eevee evolves into."
"As long as we stay away from those places, it should be fine. There probably aren't any places like that within Jiangcheng City."
As Wu Yueyue listened to Zhang Cheng explain what she needed to know about Sylveon, she hurriedly took notes on her phone.
Once he had finished answering Wu Yueyue's questions, Zhang Cheng got up, said goodbye, and returned to his dorm.
Watching Zhang Cheng's figure recede into the distance, Wu Yueyue felt her heart beating faster for some reason. It was probably because she was thinking about her future Sylveon.
