Background and History

Rise of the Heavenly Court

The Demon Race was initially composed of ancient great demons whose transformed bodies, Demon Cores, and corpses were valuable cultivation and artifact-refining resources. Their true forms included ancient spiritual beasts and fierce beasts 30.

Di Jun sought Dao Ancestor Hongjun's approval to establish the Demon Race Heavenly Court atop Mount Buzhou “to protect all demons in the world.” Hongjun deemed the plan feasible, enabling the Heavenly Court to become the race's central authority 26.

The Heavenly Court attempted to register all demons under its rule, including demons already affiliated with other factions. Taiyi maintained that even a Saint's disciple could not stand above the two Demon Emperors unless they were not truly demons, creating friction with the Western Queen Mother and her followers 54.

Goddess Nüwa and Fuxi held an intentionally ambiguous relationship with the race: neither publicly accepted nor denied being demons. Di Jun and Taiyi wanted Nüwa to become the Demon Race's Sage, but formally recognizing her as a member would also imply submission to their authority 55.

Conflict with the Witch Race

The Demon Race repeatedly clashed with the Witch Race over territory, status, and influence. Di Jun and Taiyi regarded the Heavenly Court's authority as dependent on Dao Ancestor Hongjun's decree, while the Witch and Demon forces treated each other as their principal rivals 39 161.

During the confrontation over Ao Guang and the Nine Dragons Aloeswood Carriage, Taiyi fought Houtu while Kunpeng arrived with Demon Generals to reinforce the Demon side. The incident escalated into the first major collision between the two races' leadership 37 39.

The Demon Race's greatest advantage against the Witch Race was the Heavenly Stars Formation, formed with the Hetu Luoshu as its core and the Three Hundred and Sixty-Five Star Lords as its base. It drew on heavenly starlight to defend the Demon forces and attack their enemies 170.

Campaign Against the Human Race

Some demons began preying on the Human Race even before official policy changed. A Grand Golden Immortal pangolin demon attacked a human tribe, but was eventually killed after a prolonged battle that inflicted severe human casualties 70.

Bai Ze presented Di Jun with a method to create weapons capable of piercing Witch bodies: incorporating Human Race souls and essence blood. He proposed that the souls and blood of millions could refine a divine weapon capable of killing Ancestral Witches 146.

Although Taiyi warned that slaughtering Nüwa's creation could provoke the Sages, Di Jun ultimately ordered the Ten Demon Generals to massacre humans, capture some as servants, and use the rest as material for the Witch Slaughtering Sword 147 149.

Witch–Demon War and Defeat

The Witch–Demon War began two hundred years ahead of schedule amid Chen Xuan's schemes, internal distrust between Taiyi and Kunpeng, and the Demon Race's assault on the surviving Human Race 167.

The war lasted six hundred years and reduced both races' populations by roughly eighty percent. Di Jun and Taiyi led the Demon forces in a fighting retreat toward Mount Buzhou, intending to draw the Witch Race away from the land from which it derived strength 168.

At the decisive battle, the Demon Race deployed the Heavenly Stars Formation against the Witch Race's Twelve Divine Heavens Great Array of Gods and Demons. Neither side could initially overcome the other, but the battle deteriorated as the Great Tribulation's malevolent energy clouded both factions' judgment 170.

The Heavenly Stars Formation collapsed after mass self-destruction by the Ancestral Witches. The Three Hundred and Sixty-Five Star Lords were annihilated, and both Di Jun and Taiyi died in battle; the Demon Race was defeated despite the Witch Race's similarly catastrophic losses 171.

The Demon Race's supreme defensive formation used the Hetu Luoshu as its formation eye and the Three Hundred and Sixty-Five Star Lords as its foundation.

Di Jun and Taiyi gave the Demon Summoning Banner to Nüwa when recognizing her as the Demon Race's ruler. Nüwa accepted it but removed the essence blood of all members above the Great Luo Golden Immortal realm 55.

The North Sea subsequently became the center of Demon Race authority. Recognition by the Demon Race required submission there, as Kunpeng was regarded as the race's actual ruler 205.
