Long Yichen stared at the translucent progress bar before him, gritting his teeth in frustration.
"Five percent in a whole year? When the hell am I ever going to get home? Do I really have to wait twenty years? Before sacrificing itself, the system told me time on Earth and the Douluo Continent flowed at a 1:1 ratio!"
"I can wait twenty years, but can my parents? I've been missing for a year now. They must be going out of their minds!"
His thoughts drifted back to a year ago.
At the time, he had been a seventeen-year-old in his second year of high school when he accidentally transmigrated to the Douluo Continent.
Unlike other transmigrators, he hadn't arrived as a disembodied soul.
His entire body had traveled straight from Earth to the Douluo Continent. Still wearing his high school uniform, he had looked utterly out of place among the people of this world.
When he first arrived, he had a system, but it was an emotional one. It declared, "I'm going to give my host the very best!"
Then the system sacrificed itself, pouring in everything it had.
In exchange, it gave him the Silver Superman Physique.
Before disappearing, the system left him a progress bar.
It said the bar would keep filling as his strength increased.
Once the bar was full, he would gain the ability to travel freely between Earth and the Douluo Continent.
And he would keep every ability he had gained.
But the progress bar was bound to the Douluo Continent. Until it was full, he absolutely could not leave. Otherwise, his progress would be interrupted, and he would never be able to go home again.
Watching the system fade away, the seventeen-year-old who had just arrived in the completely unfamiliar Douluo Continent had been terrified.
But no amount of calling out could stop the system from disappearing.
Without the system, his sense of security vanished. He feared some native of the Douluo Continent might suddenly appear and kill him.
Then he stepped out of the shadows and into the light of the yellow sun.
At that moment, his strength began to surge wildly, and his anxiety rapidly faded.
After a few minutes of sunbathing, he could lift a mountain hundreds of meters tall with one hand. His unease disappeared completely.
Then,
he understood.
All fear came from insufficient firepower.
He wasn't the one who should be afraid. The natives of the Douluo Continent were.
Still, he had no interest in ruling the Douluo Continent. He only wanted to go home.
In all his life, he had never been this far from his parents. This wasn't leaving his province or his country. He had left the whole damn planet!
No, he had crossed into another freaking dimension!
Once his parents learned he was missing, they must have been frantic, searching everywhere for him.
And his adorable little sister must have been crying her eyes out, wishing her big brother would come home.
He wanted to go home too, but this goddamn progress bar was countless times slower than a snail.
He had spent an entire year soaking up sunlight, and it had only reached five percent!
He didn't know how strong he was now, but just minutes after arriving, he had already been able to lift a mountain hundreds of meters tall with his bare hands.
After a whole year, surely he could shatter a planet with one punch by now.
Once he returned to Earth, wouldn't he be able to go straight into "I don't eat beef" mode?
One thing worth mentioning was that his Silver Superman Physique had actually become what the Douluo Continent called a Martial Soul.
So what rank would his Silver Superman Martial Soul be?
A few minutes of sunlight let him lift a mountain hundreds of meters tall with his bare hands. It was countless times stronger than Qian Renxue's divine-grade Six-Winged Angel Martial Soul.
While Long Yichen was lost in thought, a rich, alluring woman's voice suddenly sounded beside him.
"Yichen, you've got a bite. Stop spacing out."
Long Yichen instantly snapped back to his senses and hurriedly looked at the float on the River. It kept dipping beneath the surface.
He immediately cleared his mind and jerked his Fishing Rod upward.
With a splash, a golden carp over a meter long broke through the River's surface, its exquisite scales glittering in the sunlight.
"Haha, what a big fish!" Long Yichen laughed happily, put the fish in his bucket, then baited his hook and cast his line again.
After lowering the hook into the water, he looked at the blonde woman fishing on the River's bank to his right.
She looked to be in her early twenties, elegant and beautiful, poised and noble.
She wore a loose, full-length golden dress, but even that couldn't conceal the breathtaking curves of her perfect figure.
Her skin was fairer than the first snowfall. Even beneath a large parasol, it seemed to reflect the golden sunlight.
Her name was Chen Yuezhu. She and Long Yichen had been fishing buddies for a year and were very close.
They sat so near each other that Long Yichen could smell the delicate fragrance wafting from her. He smiled and said:
"Sister Yuezhu, you look beautiful today."
The corner of Chen Yuezhu's mouth secretly lifted, but she acted as though she hadn't heard him. She turned toward Long Yichen with a puzzled expression:
"Huh? What did you just say? I didn't catch it."
Don't think I missed that little smile before you hid it... Long Yichen laughed inwardly, then said:
"I said you look beautiful today, Sister Yuezhu."
Chen Yuezhu's earlobes flushed faintly. She quickly brushed her hair forward to cover them, then gave a light huff, pretending to be calm:
"At least you have some taste. Don't think that means you can use my bait."
Despite her words, she poured all the bait beside her into Long Yichen's bait box, leaving none for herself.
Long Yichen glanced at it, his eyes crinkling with amusement, then stared unblinkingly at Chen Yuezhu's beautiful profile.
His gaze made Chen Yuezhu squirm. Her slender hands tightened around her fishing rod again and again. Her hair couldn't hide her reddening earlobes, and her cheeks felt as hot as fire.
She suddenly turned to glare at Long Yichen and snapped:
"What are you staring at? Keep looking all you like, there's no more bait!"
"You're beautiful even when you're angry," Long Yichen complimented her as he watched her indignant expression.
"Y-you! What nonsense are you saying?"
Chen Yuezhu's face turned scarlet. She whipped her head away, leaving Long Yichen looking at the back of her head.
A moment passed, but she heard no reply from Long Yichen.
Unable to help herself, she secretly turned her face a little to peek at him from the corner of her eye, only to find Long Yichen staring intently at her.
Catching her furtive glance, Long Yichen's smile grew mischievous:
"Yuezhu, are you getting shy?"
"You're the one getting shy!" Chen Yuezhu instantly bristled. Blushing furiously, she glared at Long Yichen, then dropped her fishing rod and got up, fleeing the riverbank while offering a particularly flimsy excuse:
"It's too hot. I'm done fishing. I'm leaving."
Chen Yuezhu ran until she reached a deserted spot before stopping.
Touching her burning cheeks, she muttered in frustration:
"This again. I'm never like this around those nobles.
Why does my heart race whenever I see Yichen? Even my head gets all dizzy. It's so strange."
She took several deep breaths to calm her pounding heart, but she didn't go back.
She entered the bustling streets of Heaven Dou City, slipped into an empty courtyard, and opened the tunnel leading to the imperial palace. She sighed softly:
"Time to disguise myself as Xue Qinghe again. What a pain."
Back at the River, Long Yichen lost interest in fishing after Chen Yuezhu left. He packed up his gear and headed home with his single large fish.
He owned a mansion in Heaven Dou City, purchased at great expense. It had a large courtyard with plenty of sunlight.
He released the golden carp into the courtyard pond to play with the hundreds of fish already inside.
Setting his fishing gear aside, he stretched out lazily on the lounge chair in the middle of the courtyard, enjoying the blazing sunlight pouring down from above as his strength steadily increased.
"Getting stronger just by lying around. This is the life," Long Yichen sighed contentedly, just about to close his eyes.
Suddenly, a strange wave of energy swept across the land.
High in the sky, an enormous Golden Scroll slowly unfurled like a divine miracle.
Long Yichen opened his eyes and looked up in confusion, spotting the Golden Scroll:
"What's that?"
At the same time, every living being on the Douluo Continent saw the enormous Golden Scroll hanging high above. They looked up, equally bewildered and confused.
While everyone was still wondering what was happening, the Golden Scroll fully unfurled, and a line of golden text slowly appeared.
