Background

Li Chengyi was born to Gu Yuanqing and Li Miaoxuan. His existence was initially concealed within the Great Gan imperial family, and Li Haotian refused Gu Yuanqing's first offer to accept the comatose child as a disciple because of the treasure that had prematurely awakened within him. Gu Yuanqing learned Li Chengyi was his son shortly afterward and accepted him as both son and disciple, while Li Haotian insisted that he retain the Li surname and remain in line for the throne. 157 158

He first met Gu Yuanqing at North Spring Mountain as a small child and adapted quickly to the unfamiliar environment. Gu Yuanqing devised a cultivation method specifically for him rather than passing down his own, judging that Li Chengyi needed a path suited to his different foundation.
