"All right, the second round of the Johto League Final Tournament is about to begin! The first match of this round will take place on the Grass Field. Tyson from Littleroot Town will attack first, while Liu Qing from Saffron City will go second!" the Announcer announced over the crowd's thunderous cheers.
"Liu Qing, ever since I learned that you won the last Indigo League Conference, I've been looking forward to battling you," Tyson said, looking at him. "I want to know whether I have what it takes to become a tournament champion. Let's give this battle everything we've got."
"That's exactly what I wanted. I've been looking forward to it too!" Liu Qing replied.
"All right, then! Go, my first Pokémon!" Tyson threw out his first Pokémon, a green creature, and a murmur of discussion spread through the stands. Liu Qing was very familiar with this reaction, since several of his own Pokémon had caused the same stir when he sent them out. After all, most of the spectators came from the Johto Region and largely knew only Pokémon from Kanto and Johto. Few recognized Pokémon from other regions or particularly rare species.
"Liu Qing, do you know what this Pokémon is?" Tyson suddenly asked.
"Heh, are you testing me?" Liu Qing smiled. "Kecleon, the Color Swap Pokémon from the Hoenn Region. It changes its color to match its surroundings and conceal itself, but the lightning-shaped marking on its body can't change color. Its extendable tongue lets it attack from a distance. What I want to know, Tyson, is whether your Kecleon has overcome the problem of that marking."
