In the wooden house's hallway, Nagato looked at his two teachers, feeling rather nervous.
Both teachers were staring straight at him. Was there anything scarier than having your teachers stare at you like that?
Usually, a student under that kind of scrutiny would already have gone over every mistake they had made since childhood.
"Teacher Izuna, Teacher Tetsuya, what are you doing? You're scaring me, staring at me like that."
Nagato spoke timidly. He really was frightened.
Seeing how scared Nagato was, Tetsuya reassured him gently.
"Don't be afraid, Nagato. There's actually something we want to discuss with you."
"Go ahead, Teacher. I'm listening."
"Nagato, your eyes are very special. They harbor tremendous power, but right now, you can't control that power. Not only does it fail to make you stronger, it actually drains your strength. If this continues, it could very well damage your body.
"So Teacher Izuna and I discussed it, and we'd like to temporarily seal the power in your eyes. Once you've grown up and have enough strength to control them, we'll remove the seal. What do you think?"
Tetsuya wasn't trying to scare Nagato. He genuinely believed that the Dual Rinnegan was holding back his growth.
As a member of the Uzumaki Clan, Nagato had looked utterly drained even before the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path sucked him dry. Anyone who didn't know better might have thought Konan had drained him instead. And Nagato's strength was pathetically lacking, too.
"You can seal the power in my eyes?"
It felt almost unreal to Nagato. He knew his eyes held tremendous power, but not only was he unable to use it, those eyes were also draining his body.
"Of course. Why wouldn't we be able to?"
Sealing jutsu in this world was an incredibly miraculous thing.
