Lu Xiaoxiao frowned and explained, "I'm Lu Xunli's little sister."
The receptionist sneered. "At least make your lies believable. You two don't even look alike."
Lu Xiaoxiao: "..."
There was really no comeback for that. They weren't biological siblings, so of course they didn't look alike.
"No, seriously, I am his sister. I'm here to bring my big brother some documents."
The receptionist scoffed. "And I'm President Lu's girlfriend's distant cousin. I've seen plenty of women like you trying to latch onto him. Could you stop being so shameless, trying to be a homewrecker when you know he's taken... Ah!"
Before she could finish, a slap landed on her face with a sharp smack.
The slap was so swift and decisive that the receptionist was instantly stunned.
With someone who had nothing to do with the plot, Lu Xiaoxiao had no reason to keep up her sweet, innocent act at all times. If the other woman wanted to run her mouth, she certainly wasn't going to indulge her.
After all these years out in the working world, life still hadn't worn down her edges. Whenever things went wrong, Lu Xiaoxiao still preferred to go straight off the rails.

The receptionist stared at her in shock, one hand covering her cheek and the other pointing shakily at Lu Xiaoxiao. After trembling for ages, she finally managed to force out, "That was assault! I'm calling the police to have you arrested!"
Lu Xiaoxiao laughed, dialed the police for her, then turned the phone screen toward her.
"No need to go to the trouble of calling them. I'll turn myself in right now. Do you think the Lu Corporation will still keep you around once this blows up?"
The receptionist immediately panicked. Knowing she'd been in the wrong first, she jumped to her feet and lunged for Lu Xiaoxiao's phone.
Lu Xiaoxiao stepped lightly backward, easily dodging her.
Frantic, the receptionist looked around. Suddenly, her eyes lit up as though she'd spotted her savior, and she shouted:
"Wanwan, there's a woman here claiming to be President Lu's sister and making a scene! Now she's even calling the police. Hurry up and do something about her!"
Lu Xiaoxiao followed the receptionist's gaze and saw a woman in a Chanel-style dress stepping out of the elevator, her hair falling softly to her shoulders. She then walked briskly toward them.
Her outfit was worth a small fortune. Even the seemingly ordinary hair clip she wore cost four figures, while her dress and jewelry were all the latest seasonal releases from luxury brands. An ordinary office worker's salary could never have covered them.
Lu Xiaoxiao frowned and mentally asked the system who she was.
The system replied, "This is Lu Xunli's current girlfriend, Chen Xiwan."
By the time the system finished explaining, Chen Xiwan had stopped in front of Lu Xiaoxiao. She gave her a gentle smile and said, "Hello, you must be Xiaoxiao. I'm Chen Xiwan. Your big brother sent me down to get you."
At that same moment, Lu Xiaoxiao's call to the police connected, and a female officer's voice came through the phone. "Hello, this is the emergency police line. How can I help you?"
Chen Xiwan paused, glancing awkwardly at Lu Xiaoxiao's phone before asking, "Xiaoxiao, could you hang up for now?"
Lu Xiaoxiao pursed her lips, said, "Sorry, everything's fine now," into the phone, and pressed the red button to end the call.
As the saying went, you didn't hit someone who greeted you with a smile. Lu Xiaoxiao's manners were an unknown quantity, but the tougher her opponent, the tougher she became. Since Chen Xiwan had asked so nicely, she could at least show her a little consideration.
Chen Xiwan gave her a grateful smile, then turned to the receptionist and said helplessly, "Cousin, she really is Xunli's little sister. You've misunderstood her."
After explaining to the receptionist, she looked apologetically at Lu Xiaoxiao and continued, "Xiaoxiao, my cousin... someone tried something similar a little while ago, so she overreacted. She wasn't deliberately targeting you. Please don't be angry. I'll apologize on her behalf!"
While Chen Xiwan was still smiling apologetically at Lu Xiaoxiao, the receptionist she'd called her cousin didn't seem to appreciate it at all. She folded her arms, shot Lu Xiaoxiao a vicious glare, and started ranting again:
"So what if she really is President Lu's sister? Being a rich family's daughter means she can hit anyone she wants? Do ordinary people like us have no rights? Everyone's equal these days!"
"Wanwan, don't be such a pushover! You're going to be her sister-in-law someday. You haven't even married into the family yet, and she's already bullying your relatives. Who knows what she'll put you through once you actually marry him!"
Despite her merciless words, the receptionist kept well away from Lu Xiaoxiao. Her face was a mixture of seething hatred and lingering fear, as though she dreaded another physical attack.
Lu Xiaoxiao almost laughed at her reasoning. "Oh, now you're bringing up equality? Congratulations, you've claimed the moral high ground. Not a single word about what you said earlier, though."
"So what if I said a few things? You didn't show any proof of your identity. Keeping suspicious people out is my job. I didn't do anything wrong!"
The receptionist stiffened her neck and continued spouting her twisted reasoning, still refusing to back down.
Embarrassed by this string of remarks undermining her, Chen Xiwan hurriedly tried to stop her in a low voice. "Cousin, please stop..."
"Wanwan! Whose side are you on, anyway? I'm your cousin! You can't start siding with outsiders this quickly!"
At those words, Chen Xiwan's expression cooled. Irritation churned inside her, and she wished she could glue her stupid cousin's mouth shut.
She had only agreed to help her find this receptionist job because her uncle's pestering had become unbearable. She'd also figured that, as family, her cousin could provide another pair of eyes in the company to keep watch on the other women around Lu Xunli.
Now it seemed the trouble this cousin could cause far outweighed any help she could offer.
With Lu Xiaoxiao still watching beside her, Chen Xiwan couldn't lose her temper. She could only suppress her irritation and soothe her cousin. "You're overthinking it. That's absolutely not what I meant. Xiaoxiao's young. Don't get upset with her."
"Xunli urgently needs the documents Xiaoxiao brought. I'll let you get back to work and take her upstairs now."
"Xiaoxiao, come with me."
Lu Xiaoxiao had no objection to Chen Xiwan's attempt to smooth things over and followed her into the private elevator nearby.
She could already tell that reasoning with someone like this was pointless, and so was cursing her out. The woman simply refused to listen to anything.
Even when they were completely in the wrong, people like her would twist everything through their own warped logic and work themselves into a mental orgasm.
Anyway, she'd delivered the slap and vented her anger. Tattling to her big brother later would make things even more perfect.
Just as Lu Xiaoxiao was feeling thoroughly pleased with her plan, Chen Xiwan seemed to read her mind and spoke:
"Xiaoxiao, I know you've been wronged, but could you do me a favor and not tell your big brother about this?"
