Qin Zixuan sounded sincere, and Lu Jiaoyue suspected nothing. She came straight out with it. "Um... here's the thing. Xiaoxiao is actually working undercover!"
Qin Zixuan froze, then put on an attentive expression. "Really? How did you find out?"
To make her words more convincing, Lu Jiaoyue poured out everything she and Lu Xiaoxiao had experienced from the beginning until now, leaving out only the fact that they had known each other beforehand. Then she pleaded with Qin Zixuan:
"So could we just pretend to follow the Pirate Team? We don't want to mess up Xiaoxiao's plans! She really is on our side! I swear!"
Qin Zixuan didn't answer right away. He looked at Lu Jiaoyue thoughtfully.
Eager for an answer, Lu Jiaoyue couldn't help tugging his sleeve and giving it a shake, her tone turning more coaxing. "Zixuan, just trust her! Please~"
The girl's eyes were clear and innocent; she obviously had nothing else on her mind. A gesture that should have carried a hint of flirtation somehow had no such undertone when she did it.
Yet the more open and unselfconscious she was, the more speechless Qin Zixuan became.
Over the past several days, Qin Zixuan had already dropped every hint he could. They were still fairly subtle, but they were both adults. Surely she should have understood by now.
But Lu Jiaoyue hadn't.
Although she had never shied away from contact with him, her obliviousness made it hard for him to take things any further.

The young man lowered his eyes to the hand holding his sleeve, an unreadable look entering his gaze.
