But someone suddenly called out to stop him.
Gu Yun turned around in surprise and saw Li Xingzhu running toward him.
"Yun, that man's family said he needs to speak to you. He said he wants to tell you the truth behind what happened back then, but you have to go back in person. He'll only tell you," Li Xingzhu said gravely.
At the mention of "that man," Gu Yun's eyes darkened.
"What does he want with me?" Gu Yun asked coldly.
This was the man who had run his mother over and killed her. He would never forget the name Sheng Feng.
It was him. His mother had simply been walking down the road when his vehicle suddenly accelerated toward them from the side.
If his mother hadn't shoved him out of the way, he would have died too.
But the police had explained that the driver had been fatigued and driving recklessly, causing his mother's death.
The footage supported that explanation, too, but Gu Yun refused to believe that was all there was to it. The driver had clearly had a chance to swerve aside, yet he had driven straight at them.
Gu Yun had only been ten, but he had forced himself to watch that recording of the crash for a full hour. If the police hadn't made him leave, he would have kept watching. Again and again, he watched his mother push him away, watched the huge truck knock her down and run straight over her body, leaving a pool of blood and the intestines crushed out of her.
He had knelt helplessly beside his mother and sobbed, begging people over and over to help him. Again and again, he had picked up the intestines from the ground and tried to stuff them back into her
