It was already past midnight, and getting a cab was a nightmare. He had scrolled for ages, but not a single driver was willing to accept his ride request.
He kept searching, but still had no luck.
Bai Chen gave up, slipped his phone into his pocket, and prepared to walk back. At this point, he probably wouldn't find another taxi.
Another miserable day!
He set off without hesitation. He knew which direction the university was in, after all. With navigation turned on too, surely he could make it back.
Even if Bai Chen was a little directionally challenged.
But in the end, Bai Chen had given himself far too much credit. Following Gaobang Maps, he only got farther and farther from his destination.
The location marker in the middle kept spinning in place. Bai Chen took a step left, but it moved right. He went left, and it went right.
"Huh? Why am I getting farther and farther from campus?" Bai Chen really couldn't figure out this Gaoban Maps app.
Turning on voice guidance didn't help either, because following its instructions led Bai Chen straight to a lake.
It was still saying, "Continue forward. Continue forward. Turn in five meters."
Bai Chen: ???
"Did this navigation app build an underwater tunnel or something?" Bai Chen scoffed.
Only an idiot would keep following its directions.
"Forget it. I'll try another navigation app." Bai Chen still didn't have the confidence to find his own way back.
People had to know their limits.
He had just left one park, only to end up circling into another a moment later.
Another half hour had passed along the way. It was now two in the morning.
He had switched to another navigation app, and with its help, he finally arrived at yet another unfamiliar park.
Just brilliant!!
Bai Chen wondered if he had stumbled into one of those ghost traps that kept people walking in circles.
People often said the most effective way to escape a ghost trap was to use a virgin boy's urine. If that seemed too disgusting,
there was a second method-start swearing.
Walk and curse at the same time. The filthier, the better.
Bai Chen sighed softly in resignation, found a bench in front of the park, and sat down again.
The wontons he was carrying had long since gone cold. Hungry now, he opened one of the containers and started eating.
Although they were cold, the filling was still fragrant and generously portioned.
The north wind howled.
It chilled Bai Chen to the bone, making him sneeze every so often.
The street was deserted, with only the occasional private car speeding past.
Bai Chen figured that, if all else failed, he could wait until morning and take a taxi back. For now, he would doze here for a while, rather than let his terrible sense of direction take him even farther away.
A moment later,
a figure suddenly appeared in front of Bai Chen, blocking the cold wind.
Startled, Bai Chen immediately opened his eyes and thought, Holy shit! Have I actually run into some creep?
He instinctively braced himself for a fight.
Looking up, he saw that the person before him was none other than the handsome Mr. Lin he had met at the teahouse.
He couldn't help letting out a sigh of relief.
Still looking a little shocked and surprised to see him here, he asked with a smile, "Oh, it's you, Mr. Lin. I thought you were someone dangerous."
Lin Jingchen wore a light gray suit that night, which made him look even more serious, but there was a gentleness in his eyes.
"Sorry," he said softly. "By the way, little boss, why are you still out here so late?"
He had only just finished dealing with work at the company and hadn't expected to run into Bai Chen on the way.
At the question, Bai Chen suddenly felt a little embarrassed. He scratched his head and gave a couple of awkward chuckles. "I came out with a classmate to watch the meteor shower. Something really important came up, so he left first. It's late, and there aren't any taxis anymore."
Hearing this, Lin Jingchen frowned slightly and looked Bai Chen over carefully.
Judging by his flushed face, he had probably been outside for quite a while. He was wearing so little, too. Spending the whole night here would definitely make him sick.
Lin Jingchen simply took off his suit jacket. Before Bai Chen could react, he had already draped it over his shoulders.
Bai Chen looked up in surprise.
Freshly taken off, the jacket still held Lin Jingchen's body heat and a pleasant scent.
Seeing that Lin Jingchen had only a white shirt underneath, Bai Chen suddenly felt embarrassed and unsure what to do.
He glanced down at himself-he at least had a jacket of his own-and immediately moved to take the suit jacket off.
Before he could remove it, however, Lin Jingchen said, "It's fine, little boss. I just got out of the car. I'm still plenty warm."
At that, Bai Chen stopped refusing and thanked Lin Jingchen with a smile.
"Come on. I'll drive you back to campus. It's on my way." Lin Jingchen looked down at Bai Chen, a smile on his lips.
Oh my god, what kind of divine savior is this? If Gu Yun was an angel, Mr. Lin was God himself! Bai Chen nodded gratefully.
"Thank you, Mr. Lin. I'm so sorry for the trouble."
"It's fine. It's on my way," Lin Jingchen said.
Bai Chen threw his empty wonton container into a trash can near the bench, then picked up the remaining portion and walked beside Lin Jingchen.
"It's the Geminid meteor shower today, isn't it?" Lin Jingchen suddenly asked.
"Yeah, that's what my roommate told me, but I don't think we'll be able to see it tonight." Bai Chen felt a little disappointed that he hadn't managed to take any pictures of the meteor shower.
Although Lin Jingchen kept his gaze forward, he was actually watching Bai Chen out of the corner of his eye, his smile growing wider.
What a fool, Lin Jingchen thought. With such terrible weather today, how could they possibly see a meteor shower?
A black Porsche was parked in front of a café, silhouetted against the light.
The rule of novels: a CEO's three signature rides were a Maybach, a Porsche, a Rolls-Royce, and a Lamborghini.
Bai Chen had planned to sit in the back, since he didn't know whether a driver was in the driver's seat. CEOs usually had chauffeurs, after all.
But Lin Jingchen opened the passenger door before he could and said, "Little boss, sit up front. It's easier to get carsick in the back."
Bai Chen: ??? No chauffeur? The CEO drove himself home?
"Oh, okay." Though puzzled, Bai Chen did as he was told and fastened his seat belt. Safety still mattered.
Lin Jingchen got into the driver's seat from the other side, fastened his own seat belt, then checked that Bai Chen had buckled up as well.
Then he pressed the accelerator, and the car traveled smoothly along the road as Bai Chen watched the scenery flash past outside.
The car was warm, and before long, Bai Chen's body temperature had returned to normal.
A little over ten minutes later, the car drove straight through the gates of North District University. The campus guards didn't even stop them.
Was this the power of a CEO? Nothing stood in his way!! So jealous. So incredibly jealous.
Usually, they had to fill out all sorts of forms just to leave campus.
The car slowed once they were on campus. Although no one was wandering around at this hour, Lin Jingchen remained as focused as ever.
Bai Chen studied the young man beside him out of the corner of his eye.
His high, straight nose, sharply defined lips, and cool, chiseled features gave him a hint of allure beneath his strong appearance.
There was no question that his profile was every bit as handsome as his face from the front.
The longer Bai Chen looked, the less he bothered hiding it, until he was openly staring.
"Little boss, is there something on my face?" A glint flickered in Lin Jingchen's eyes, and a faint smile curved his lips.
Crap, caught!! Bai Chen hurriedly turned his head away and gave a couple of awkward chuckles.
