Hearing the footsteps closing in behind her, Yui had no choice but to quicken her pace.
Before she had gone far, a faint light appeared in the dark passage ahead.
She stepped into the Laboratory.
Yui's pupils contracted at the sight of what lay inside.
Reflected in her black eyes was an enormous crystal sphere, standing between the Laboratory's ceiling and floor.
"This..." Countless Byakugan eyes were stored inside the sphere, along with a hazy figure.
But the eyes obscured that figure, leaving her unsure of the person's identity.
She wanted to step closer and get a clear look at the person's face. But the footsteps behind her interrupted her movement.
Tap, tap, tap.
Glancing back toward the sound, Yui darted behind a crate of miscellaneous supplies.
The very next second, Ikuko Hyuga walked in from the passage.
She stopped before the crystal sphere full of Byakugan eyes and silently watched the figure inside.
After a long while, she finally spoke slowly. "Nai Hyuga, this is all fate."
"So I'll give you a quick death today!" she said coldly.
"That way, you won't have to suffer as much."
Nai Hyuga seemed to sense something inside the sphere and stirred slightly.
But Ikuko Hyuga noticed none of it.
Behind the nearby crate.
Yui's eyes trembled at Ikuko Hyuga's words, as though she could not believe this was real.
Through a gap in the crate, she tried to make out the familiar figure inside.
She did not understand. Why had things turned out like this?
In her memories, the two of them had been laughing and playing together one moment, only to be on the verge of being separated by death the next.
This was all her fault. If only she had known, she would never have left Nai that day.
