Heaven-defying luck: starting with nine Sacred Cups and successfully binding the Three Harms System (1 / 2)
The gentle glow was like a mother's hand, softly caressing the delicate skin of the clouds and mist. The illusory space had an extraordinarily moving sense of substance. Dimly, not far away, a majestic palace seemed to stand, both unreal and real beneath the caress of that gentle glow.
Two figures stood quietly among the clouds and mist, gazing into the distance at who knew what.
One figure had long, water-blue hair that cascaded like a waterfall all the way to his feet. Only his imposing frame and broad shoulders gave any indication that he was a man.
To his left, an exceptionally beautiful figure in a purple-red dress quietly kept him company, gentle and serene!
"Brother San, why have you been watching Douluo Star so often lately? Has something happened?"
At Xiao Wu's question, Tang San sighed. "Tens of thousands of years have passed, and the Tang Sect has declined. Now, it has reached the brink of life and death."
"I founded the Tang Sect myself and brought it to greatness. How could I accept it ending just like that? Besides, the situation on Douluo Star isn't promising either. According to my calculations, something major is likely to happen."
Xiao Wu was immediately alarmed, and boundless worry rose in her heart. Tang San worried about the Tang Sect; Xiao Wu worried about the Star Dou Great Forest.
"Brother San, what should we do? Should we intervene?"
But the moment Xiao Wu said this, Tang San became displeased. He was an enforcer of the Divine Realm, as pure as ice and jade. How could he knowingly break the law, violating the very laws he enforced?
"Xiao Wu, you must never say such a thing again. Even though you're my wife, I won't bend the rules for you!"
"I understand, Brother San!"
Xiao Wu stuck out her tongue as she answered him. Her husband was wonderful in every way, but his excessive uprightness did give her a headache.
What Xiao Wu failed to notice, however, was the strange ripple in Tang San's eyes when she said those words!
He truly hadn't interfered with Douluo Star!
His parents simply weren't comfortable living in the Divine Realm and had chosen to retire to Douluo Star themselves. His father swallowing a plane's will, and his mother's roots spreading throughout Douluo Star as she became its Mother of Life-surely that was perfectly reasonable.
He had merely calculated who Douluo Star's child of destiny was. Helping him become a god was very conscientious, wasn't it? He was only throwing in a dog leash as a free gift. Oh yeah! What? The Soul Beasts' power of destiny? Did they even hear what they were saying? Didn't the destiny of Douluo Star's Soul Beasts belong to the Tang family?
As for the God of Destruction, he had repeatedly opposed him in the Divine Realm and had long since paved his own road to death. Once Tang San's ten-thousand-year plan came to fruition, he would send him into the Divine Realm Prison to grope backsides.
Douluo Continent, during the Peerless Tang Sect era, the White Tiger Duke's Mansion.
The White Tiger Duke's Mansion stood on the outskirts of the Star Luo Imperial City and occupied an enormous area. The entire Duke's Mansion was practically a small town.
At that moment, on the hill behind the White Tiger Duke's Mansion, a boy of eleven or twelve knelt before a small mound of earth.
He was thin and frail, dressed in a coarse cloth coat. His skin was a healthy wheat color, and it was obvious that he had suffered from long-term malnutrition.
With a gray bundle on his back, the boy tearfully bowed several times to the little mound before wiping his tears away. "Mom, don't worry. I'll become a powerful Soul Master and avenge you. I swear I'll do it."
The boy slowly rose, took one last look at the flourishing White Tiger Duke's Mansion, then resolutely headed down the hill toward the passage leading to the back gate.
He, Huo Yuhao, would leave this hellish place today, this place that had tormented him for more than a decade.
He swore that the next time he returned, he would make everyone here pay.
But the instant he rose, Huo Yuhao suddenly felt something appear in his mind. Then, as though needles were piercing his brain, a fierce pain abruptly erupted.
By the time he regained consciousness, evening had fallen.
He clutched his still-aching head, his heart filled with horror. The unknown was the most frightening thing of all. He had no idea what had happened, and that left him bewildered and afraid.
But just as his thoughts ran wild, a crisp voice suddenly rang out in his mind.
"Welcome to the Three Harms System. I'm the biggest villain of them all, the Chief of Evils."
"Congratulations, cutie. I'm going to play a game with you."
"If you lose, I'll be looking for my four hundred and thirty-ninth host within this short hour. If you win, I'll die, and this system will assimilate into the Three Harms System of your world."
"Who? Who's talking? What three harms? What game?"
Huo Yuhao was utterly baffled, but more than anything, his heart was filled with terror and unease.
Some Three Harms System had suddenly appeared in his mind. It made no sense at all. Who was speaking? Could it be a ghost?
Terrified, Huo Yuhao took to his heels. But soon, the voice in his mind rang out again, and a sinister-looking middle-aged man appeared before him, holding two identical crescent-shaped objects.
"Don't worry. I'm a man of principles. As long as you win, I'll slit my throat on the spot."
"And if I lose?"
Huo Yuhao demanded loudly. Once he realized he couldn't escape the voice or evade the figure, he could only resign himself to his fate.
He discovered that the person before him really was inside his head. No matter how far he ran, he couldn't get away.
"Heh heh, if you lose, you die. And I'll go looking for my four hundred and thirty-ninth host."
"But if you win, you'll receive the most powerful treasure in this world. Get rid of me, and you can fully bind the Three Harms System."
"With a system in this world, you can do anything you want."
"Huo Yuhao, I know you. I know who you are, and I know the burden you carry."
"With your talent, even if you give it everything you've got for the rest of your life, you'll only reach the Soul Ancestor level. With that kind of strength, who do you think you can take revenge on? Who can you avenge?"
"Huo Yuhao, stop deceiving yourself. Your life is going nowhere anyway. It might even get worse. You might as well take a gamble with me."
"I win, you die, and I look for my next host."
"I die, you win, and you gain control of this system."
"Come on, boy. Take a gamble. Bet on your luck. Bet that you can win, defy heaven and change your fate, and avenge yourself and your mother."
The Three Harms System's words were like a devil's whispers, ceaselessly tempting Huo Yuhao.
With hatred clouding his mind, Huo Yuhao had clearly fallen under his spell. But he wasn't stupid. The choice he made was one he had carefully considered himself.
He's right. With my talent, no matter how hard I cultivate, I'll never be able to avenge my mother. I might as well make a deal with this devil and gamble on my future.
Huo Yuhao didn't know who this person really was, what had happened to him, or what exactly was inside his mind.
But precisely because there were so many unknowns, he felt that this thing might truly be able to change his fate.
"Fine. I'll gamble with you. How do we play?"
The moment Huo Yuhao finished speaking, the Spirit of the Three Harms System's voice rang out.
His laughter was wild and utterly unrestrained.
He couldn't force Huo Yuhao to play the game, nor could he hurt him. All he could do was use his control to prevent Huo Yuhao from using him.
But now that Huo Yuhao had made his choice, there was no medicine for regret.
"Huo Yuhao, I admire you. This game is very simple. It's just a little game of casting Sacred Cups."
With that, he tossed the two divination blocks in his hands to Huo Yuhao.
"You don't even need to know what these are called. Just toss them. You don't need to know anything else. As long as they land with different sides facing up, that counts as one Sacred Cup."
"If you can cast nine Sacred Cups in a row, I'll kill myself on the spot for you to see. If you can't, then sorry, but I'll be taking your soul."
"Casting Sacred Cups? Oh, so one yin and one yang makes a Sacred Cup?"
Huo Yuhao casually tossed them. The two divination blocks landed one yin and one yang-a Sacred Cup indeed.
"You haven't petitioned Lord Guan or stated your name, age, and address. So that round doesn't count."
"It doesn't count? Fine!"
Huo Yuhao readily agreed, then prepared to begin the next round. He seemed to place little importance on whether he lived or died.
This immediately puzzled the system spirit.
Isn't this kid afraid of dying?
Huo Yuhao was indeed afraid of death. But once he learned that this fellow wanted to gamble with him by rolling dice, he suddenly wasn't afraid anymore.
He had been lucky since childhood, winning ten gambles out of ten. Of course, with his mother around, he had only ever dared to test his luck with dice and the like, never to gamble for money in a casino.
He had discovered that his luck was exceptionally good. Whatever he wanted would come to him.
Although he hadn't known what a Sacred Cup was just now, he had silently wished for one, tossed the blocks casually, and actually gotten one.
"Lord Guan above, my name is Huo Yuhao. I'm eleven years old, and I live on the hill behind the White Tiger Duke's Mansion."
After saying this, Huo Yuhao looked at the vicious-faced system spirit and asked, "Can I begin?"
"Go ahead. I can't wait..."
