The Sinnoh Region, parched for rain, finally welcomed its first rainfall of the summer.
The sudden downpour caught the forest Pokémon off guard, sending them scrambling for shelter.
Dustox flew into a sheltered spot behind the bushes, Bidoof and Bibarel hid in their newly built dens, and the Seedot obediently climbed down from the trees to shelter in the undergrowth.
An Aipom tried to slip into the tent to escape the rain, only to be knocked back out by Gengar's Thin Bamboo Cane.
Chen Yan shook his head at the sight. He glanced at Glameow, who was lying beside him watching the rain intently, and suddenly spoke:
"This rain's making it a little chilly."
Gengar, Kakuna, and Glameow all turned to look at Chen Yan.
Gengar took out several jackets and handed them to Chen Yan. Seeing the concern on Gengar's face, Chen Yan said:
"These are too thick. I'd get hot wearing them."
"Gengar?"
Then what should we do?
Chen Yan sighed. "Ah, if only a Pokémon would lie in my arms and keep me warm."
Gengar blinked, glanced down at that bulky body, and fell into distress.
I... don't think I'd fit?
"Hey! Stop right there! You'll only make me colder if you come over! You're a Ghost-type, remember?"
Chen Yan said, staring at Gengar, who looked ready to give it a try.
"Gengar."
Oh, right.
Gengar scratched that round belly. Don't ask-Gengar couldn't reach that head.
An idea struck Gengar, who handed Kakuna to Chen Yan. Chen Yan and Kakuna exchanged a look, and then Chen Yan tossed Kakuna aside.
Kakuna: ???
Are you even human? I'm asking you, are you even human?!
What did Kakuna ever do to you? Kakuna was... shaking with rage and freezing too!
Chen Yan looked at Glameow expectantly. Glameow yawned, then leisurely padded over and hopped into his arms.
Feeling the soft fur in his arms, Chen Yan narrowed his eyes in contentment.
Sitting in the tent with Glameow in his arms, watching raindrops splash into the river, with Gengar and Kakuna beside him and the sound of rain pattering against the tent in his ears, Chen Yan suddenly felt that traveling wasn't quite so exhausting after all.
After watching the rain with Glameow for a while, Chen Yan let go and stretched. "All right, it's getting late. Time for our first proper livestream."
"Gengar, come give me a hand."
"Gengar-"
Coming.
Under Chen Yan's guidance, Gengar had already learned how to set up the Live Broadcast Equipment and even how to find the right camera angles.
"Gengar-"
It's too dark over there. Sit here.
Gengar pointed toward the tent entrance and looked at Chen Yan.
Chen Yan nodded. "Whatever you say, Master Gengar."
Hearing Chen Yan address Gengar as a master, Gengar's whole face turned solemn.
Chen Yan sat where Gengar had indicated. Gengar checked the shot, looking very pleased.
"Gengar-"
All set. I'll start the stream, then.
"Okay."
Chen Yan lowered his head and fiddled with the equipment Rich Guy had sent him.
It's been ages since I played games. Might as well play for a bit while it's raining.
The livestream started, and the first batch of viewers soon poured in.
[First, first! I was the first one here.]
[Finally live! What's on the agenda today?]
[Why isn't the streamer talking?]
[Not talking is good. Let Gengar do the stream instead.]
Gengar stood in front of the screen, staring at the scrolling comments for a long time.
(。・ˇ_ˇ・。:)
I can't read them! Darn it!
"Meow?"
Glameow's cry brought Chen Yan's attention back. He looked over and found Glameow curiously studying the Live Broadcast Equipment. He smiled. "That's our Live Broadcast Equipment."
"Oh, right! The stream!" Chen Yan suddenly raised his head and discovered that the viewer count had already reached four digits.
"Welcome to the stream, everyone," Chen Yan greeted them with a smile.
[So you forgot you were streaming?]
[You fiend! You kept us waiting for half an hour!]
Chen Yan spotted that comment immediately. "Half an hour? Are you sleepwalking? I only just started streaming."
"But I'm still sorry. I was figuring out the gaming equipment Rich Guy sponsored, and I forgot to welcome everyone."
[If I remember right, Rich Guy sponsored your Live Broadcast Equipment too?]
Chen Yan nodded. "That's right. Rich Guy sponsored all of it, so I really have to thank him properly here."
Gholdengo Is Number One: No big deal.
The comment drifted across the screen.
[Rich Guy is so generous!]
[All praise Rich Guy.]
Gholdengo Is Number One: Are you in a tent outdoors? I can hear rain hitting the tent.
"Yep, we're in the forest right now. It started raining right after we finished eating, so I thought I'd stream while it rained, take a break, and play some games."
[You're still out in the wild?]
"I am. I'll probably be out here for a while, because I want to record something you'll never forget."
[Thanks for all your hard work, streamer. I'll send you a little heart to show my appreciation.]
[Why does it look like you're deep in the forest?]
"Yeah, we're deep in the forest."
[Stay safe, streamer. If you kick the bucket, where will we watch videos?]
"...Thanks, but I think I've still got plenty of years left," Chen Yan quipped.
[Can we see your Pokémon? I really want a Pokémon too.]
That comment caught Chen Yan's attention. He smiled and nodded. "No problem."
"Gengar, come say hello to everyone."
Gengar stepped into the shot and greeted the camera with a mischievous grin.
"This is Kakuna, who evolved from Weedle, and here's someone else." Chen Yan picked Glameow up and held her in front of the camera as he introduced her:
"This is our little princess, Miss Glameow. Isn't she adorable? Glameow, say hello to the family."
Glameow obligingly gave the camera a soft, adorable "meow."
Chen Yan felt his heart melt.
[Aaaaaah! Miss Glameow!! How are you so cute?!]
[Chen Yan, you, out. Glameow, you host!]
[...]
The chat was instantly flooded with comments about Glameow.
"You like Glameow that much? Then shall I have her stream with me?"
The response was unanimous approval.
Chen Yan lowered his head and discussed having Glameow join him for the stream.
The viewers couldn't make out Chen Yan's conversation with Glameow, because he was speaking very quietly.
Still, they found the sight of Chen Yan talking it over with Glameow heartwarming.
Before long, Chen Yan raised his head and smiled. "Glameow says she agrees."
"Oh, right. Gengar, Kakuna, do you want to join us too?"
"Gengar!"
[Blinked.]
"Then come sit here."
Chen Yan patted the spot beside him, and Gengar came over with a broad grin, carrying Kakuna.
[Gengar is so cute~]
[Glameow is so cute too~]
[And Kakuna~]
The chat instantly filled with a crowd of people chiming in.
"Huh, how do you use this thing? I've never used one before."
Holding the device, Chen Yan asked the viewers for help.
With their help, Chen Yan finally connected the game to the stream.
"Okay, let's play some games."
Looking at the screen projected by the Drone, Chen Yan clenched his fist and called out.
