Qiao Hua hadn't expected that reaction from Gu Wenze. She turned her fury on Jiang Nan and attacked her like a madwoman.

In his desperation to save Jiang Nan, Gu Wenze shoved Qiao Hua. She lost her balance and struck the wall, causing a threatened miscarriage.

Qiao Hua spent half a month in the hospital. Gu Wenze never visited her once during that time, spending every day by Jiang Nan's side instead.

Just thinking about that plot gave Qiao Hua a headache.

The lovesick original Qiao Hua would definitely have kept the baby.

But Qiao Hua wasn't going to do anything that stupid.

Gu Wenze wouldn't want it once he found out anyway, so she might as well get an abortion herself.

She had no desire to get tangled up in the main couple's plot and meet the same tragic end as the original Qiao Hua.

After leaving the hospital, Qiao Hua returned to the Gu Family home.

Qiao Hua took a shower in the bathroom. She had just finished changing and stepped out when she heard the keypad lock downstairs click open.

Footsteps drew closer, then the bedroom door was pushed open from outside.

Gu Wenze walked into the room and met Qiao Hua's eyes as she stood by the bathroom door. She was drying her hair with a towel, her fitted nightdress tracing her graceful curves. Droplets slid down her smooth, slender neck and disappeared into the tantalizing neckline at her chest.

Gu Wenze narrowed his eyes slightly.

He had to admit that Qiao Hua's face and her five-foot-nine figure were flawless.

Unfortunately, beneath that beautiful exterior lay a venomous heart.

Noticing Gu Wenze's gaze, Qiao Hua instinctively covered her chest, her expression guarded. "What are you looking at?"

Qiao Hua really hadn't dressed like this to seduce Gu Wenze. There simply wasn't a single normal set of pajamas in the original Qiao Hua's wardrobe, only lace camisoles and sexy lingerie.

This was already the most modest thing she could find.

To Gu Wenze, her behavior was nothing but an affected act. He looked away in disgust, pulled off his tie, and tossed it onto the floor. "I don't have the energy to argue with you right now. You'd better leave me alone."

Every time Gu Wenze came back from Jiang Nan's place, Qiao Hua would pick a huge fight with him.

But Qiao Hua merely gave him an indifferent glance. Using the original Qiao Hua's memories, she found the hair dryer in the cabinet and started drying her hair without paying him any attention.

A flicker of surprise crossed Gu Wenze's eyes at her calm response.

Qiao Hua paused in drying her hair. She turned to look at Gu Wenze, her gaze growing puzzled. "What did I do now?"

Was there something wrong with this guy?

When I made a scene, he called me a shrew. When I didn't, he thought I was plotting something.

Did he think I was going to do something to his precious Jiang Nan?

Gu Wenze's gaze grew unfathomably deep.

He could hardly be blamed for thinking that. Ever since Jiang Nan returned to the country, Qiao Hua had been targeting her.

Qiao Hua had even physically hurt Jiang Nan several times. If he hadn't arrived in time, there was no telling how many times Jiang Nan would have ended up in the hospital.

Gu Wenze narrowed his eyes dangerously. "Don't think I don't know what you're thinking. You're upset that I took Jiang Nan to the hospital, so you've been looking for an excuse to start trouble, haven't you?"

Qiao Hua switched off the hair dryer. Silence instantly returned to the room, making her voice all the clearer. "Mr. Gu, if you think there's nothing wrong with looking after a friend, why would you assume I'd be angry?"

"Or do you know perfectly well that you've crossed a line?"

Gu Wenze's jaw tightened, his voice low. "She just returned to the country, and I'm her only friend. If I don't look after her, who will?"

Qiao Hua snorted. "The Jiang Family used to have money and influence, didn't they? Jiang Nan went to school here until she graduated from high school, and she doesn't have a single friend?"

Some domineering CEO you are, falling for an excuse that flimsy.

Gu Wenze's temples throbbed. What nonsense was Qiao Hua spouting?

"Jiang Nan is introverted. She's never had many friends, even as a child. What's so strange about that?"

Just then, the phone in Gu Wenze's pocket rang.

Jiang Nan's name flashed on the caller ID.

Now she'll say her fever has gotten worse and ask you to come look after her.

Gu Wenze pretended not to hear and answered the call.

Jiang Nan's weak, hoarse voice came through the phone. "Wenze, I think my fever has gotten worse. Could you come over?"

A hint of complicated emotion entered Gu Wenze's gaze as he looked at Qiao Hua.

She had actually gotten it right.

When Gu Wenze didn't answer for a long time, Jiang Nan's guilty voice sounded in his ear. "Wenze, am I interrupting you?"

Qiao Hua cupped a hand beside her mouth and deliberately raised her voice. "You knew you were interrupting us and called anyway. Should I call you a bitch, or a bitch who just can't help herself?"

A vein twitched at Gu Wenze's temple. "Shut up!" he snapped.

Qiao Hua curled her lip and turned her head away.

"Is Qiao Hua there too?" Jiang Nan sounded apologetic. "I'm sorry for disturbing you both. Perhaps I should just take a taxi to the hospital myself."

Gu Wenze said in a low voice, "No need. I'm coming over now. Wait for me."

Jiang Nan hesitated. "Is that okay? Won't Qiao Hua be angry?"

Gu Wenze glanced at Qiao Hua. "Don't worry about her. Just stay home."

Only then did Jiang Nan smile. "Okay. I'll wait for you."

After hanging up, Gu Wenze picked up his jacket and was about to leave when he heard that damned woman's thoughts again.

He's going to see that little fake innocent, isn't he?

Too bad he'll get into a car accident on the way and won't make it to her place.

Should I warn him?

Forget it. What do I care whether Gu Wenze lives or dies?

Gu Wenze stopped abruptly, an inexplicable surge of irritation rising in his chest.

He wasn't going to believe that woman's nonsense.

She had to be playing some trick again.

Without looking back to see Qiao Hua's reaction, Gu Wenze slammed the door behind him and drove toward Jiang Nan's home.

But he hadn't gone far when a loud crash rang out. A Santana coming from the right slammed into the hood of Gu Wenze's car.
