Qiao Hua's heart sank to rock bottom at those words.

Gu Wenze knew everything?

Surely not? She hadn't given anything away. Where had she gone wrong?

Looking at Gu Wenze's dangerously dark expression, Qiao Hua realized something in a flash.

She glanced at the doctors and nurses around them, then looked back at Gu Wenze and asked with a frown, "You stopped my procedure?"

Gu Wenze tightened his grip, silently confirming it.

Since Gu Wenze knew, Qiao Hua threw caution to the wind and admitted it. "So what if I did? If I want an abortion, I'll get one. Do I need your permission?"

At those words, a piercing, icy aura radiated from Gu Wenze, and his face clouded over. "That's my child. What do you think?"

Qiao Hua's eyes shifted, and she suddenly curled her lips into a smile. "President Gu, you don't want this child anyway. Aren't I saving you the trouble by getting rid of it myself?"

Gu Wenze's dark eyes were sharp, but he said nothing, his face taut.

He had indeed never intended to let Qiao Hua bear children for the Gu Family. A vicious woman who had drugged him just to marry into his family didn't deserve to carry his child.

Yet when he actually learned that Qiao Hua was pregnant, his first thought hadn't been to make her get an abortion. Instead, he had been furious that she had hidden something so important from him.

When Gu Wenze remained silent, Qiao Hua assumed she had read him correctly, and her tone grew considerably lighter. "You'd make me get rid of it once you found out anyway. What difference does it make whether I do it sooner or later?"

She remembered the male lead forcing the original Qiao Hua to abort her child in the novel. Now that she was doing it voluntarily, Gu Wenze ought to be pleased.

Seeing how justified Qiao Hua looked, Gu Wenze's expression grew even more frightening. "Whether we keep the child is my decision. You have no right to decide."

Qiao Hua refused to accept that. "How do I have no right? I'm the child's mother. It'll be coming out of my belly, not yours."

She couldn't stand the domineering, dictatorial CEOs in these melodramatic novels. It wasn't as though the men were the ones giving birth. What right did they have to disregard everything women went through?

Seeing that Qiao Hua still dared to talk back, Gu Wenze clenched his teeth. "If I say you have no right, then you have no right!"

Qiao Hua was about to speak again when Gu Wenze seemed to realize something. He suddenly forced her face up to meet his gaze and said coldly, "Or is this child not mine? Is that why you wanted to get rid of it behind my back?"

Qiao Hua: "?"

Sure enough, a domineering CEO's mind worked differently from everyone else's.

He could even come up with something that absurd.

Just then, an unbearable thought flashed through Gu Wenze's mind, and his voice grew even colder. "Is this child Yan Yu's?"

"Is that why you're so desperate to get rid of it?"

Qiao Hua wrenched herself free of his hand, too fed up to explain. "Yes, yes, yes. It's Yan Yu's child, so it has even less to do with you. Please stop interfering with my procedure."

Anger flared in Gu Wenze's eyes. He abruptly reached out and yanked her into his arms. "Say that again."

Could the child in Qiao Hua's belly really not be his?

Was it Yan Yu's bastard?

Thinking of their recent interactions, he wondered if they had already gotten together behind his back.

His grip hurt so much that Qiao Hua grimaced. "President Gu, if there's something wrong with your hearing, get it treated."

Her thoughts finally reminded Gu Wenze of the pregnancy report, and his icy expression eased considerably.

Qiao Hua had angered him so much that he had momentarily forgotten. She hadn't even started working back then. How could she have been with Yan Yu?

At that thought, Gu Wenze suppressed the urge to strangle her and said, enunciating every word, "Qiao Hua, unless I agree, don't even think about aborting this child."

With that, he hauled Qiao Hua off the examination bed and dragged her toward the hospital entrance. The other medical staff didn't dare stop him and could only watch as the two left the hospital.

At the entrance, Gu Wenze roughly shoved Qiao Hua into the car and ordered the driver to leave.

Qiao Hua instinctively pulled at the door, but it was already locked. She pounded hard on the window and shouted, "Let me out!"

Gu Wenze gave her a sinister look. "Qiao Hua, I haven't settled the score with you for trying to get an abortion behind my back. Just try making another scene."

Qiao Hua found him utterly unreasonable. "What right do you have to settle any score with me?"

Gu Wenze seized her wrist and said through clenched teeth, "The fact that you hid your pregnancy from me and came to the hospital for an abortion behind my back."

If he hadn't happened to hear Qiao Hua's thoughts today, the child in her belly might already have been gone.

"Even if I'd told you, would you have wanted it?" Qiao Hua asked. "Since you wouldn't, why should I bother telling you?"

[Besides, you don't want me carrying a child of the Gu Family, do you?]

[We both know exactly what's going on. Who are you trying to fool?]

Qiao Hua nodded frankly. "Yes."

"And then?" Gu Wenze narrowed his long eyes. "Were you planning to get together with Yan Yu?"

Qiao Hua said offhandedly, "That's not something you need to worry about."

[Even having Yan Yu's child would be better than having yours.]
