In the end, Wen Maimai stayed aboard the ship after all. Of course, it wasn't because Ning Xiang had softened, but because Zhou Ruoxue had produced another million spirit stones to let her stay.
Wen Maimai looked at Zhou Ruoxue, deeply moved. The latter said, "Don't get the wrong idea. I let you stay because we still haven't settled our debate over which man is the best match for the War God!"
Jiang Miaomiao passed by, her brow furrowed and her face full of worry.
Although Wen Maimai wasn't particularly fond of Jiang Miaomiao, they were both disciples of the Profound Heaven Sect, and Jiang Miaomiao was also Sister Xiang's junior disciple sister. Naturally, she couldn't exclude her, so Wen Maimai warmly invited her over. "Senior Sister Jiang, come play cards with us!"
How vulgar!
Jiang Miaomiao said in a soft, gentle voice, "Junior Sister Wen, I think that as cultivators, we ought to cultivate more refined interests."
Wen Maimai expressed her understanding, then turned back to continue playing cards with Bai Yueguang and Zhou Ruoxue.
Ignored, Jiang Miaomiao clutched at her heart, tears pattering down in wounded misery. They fell onto the floor... and, of course, didn't turn into pearls.
Jiang Miaomiao decided to find her master.
She gazed at that pristine, snow-white figure. Heaven knew she had thought of her master almost every single day during those few months of secluded cultivation!
Jiang Miaomiao rushed toward him like a fledgling swallow flying home to the woods.
Master's back looked so desolate and lonely. He must be waiting for me!
Just as she came within ten paces of Lu Qingchen, what did Jiang Miaomiao hear?
She heard Lu Qingchen muttering to himself-
"... Please give me your daughter's hand in marriage. Hmm, does that sound too stiff?"
Jiang Miaomiao's girlish heart shattered...
It shattered into powder, the kind that could never be pieced back together.
She covered her face and ran to the other end of the deck, sobbing.
Her eyes red, Jiang Miaomiao tilted her head up toward the sky. She had heard that doing so would keep her tears from falling, so no one would look down on her.
What a cruel fate I have, plagued by disasters, a life full of hardship, a beauty doomed to die young... Pah, pah, pah! Who's doomed to die young?
The more Jiang Miaomiao thought about it, the more she felt like a pitiful little thing, dabbing at the corners of her eyes with a handkerchief.
But the wind was too strong and swept her handkerchief away. Jiang Miaomiao reached to catch it, leaning half her body over the railing.
A whip coiled around her waist and pulled her back.
Ning Xiang stood a short distance away, looking at her coldly. "Trying to kill yourself? Jiang Miaomiao, you've really outdone yourself."
Jiang Miaomiao was deeply ashamed, but compared with admitting that she had nearly fallen overboard by accident, claiming she'd lost the will to live and intended to kill herself would at least save more face.
Ning Xiang ignored her and walked straight off. Yet as Jiang Miaomiao watched her leave, gratitude welled up inside her. Her senior sister had a cold exterior but a warm heart. She truly was as kind as she was beautiful!
The wind outside was so strong that Jiang Miaomiao's hair blew across her face. She slunk back into the cabin.
There, she found the trio huddled together in a heated debate.
"Who wouldn't want a lover as gentle, considerate, and tenderly affectionate as Su Lang?"
"Wen Maimai, I'm telling you, warm, caring guys are old news. Sweet puppy boys are all the rage now!"
"If you ask me, Ye Fan is the War God's true love! Didn't you notice that Ye Fan was the first character to appear in the original?"
"What are you discussing?" Jiang Miaomiao asked.
The trio's eyes lit up, and they pulled Jiang Miaomiao over. Over the next hour, they introduced her to the two books, Overbearing War God and Her Runaway Little Husband and Divorced 10,001 Times: The Overbearing War God's Secret Guilty Husband.
The trio asked in unison, "Which man do you think is the best match for the War God?"
Jiang Miaomiao was utterly swept away, deeply touched by their heart-stirring love stories.
She ventured timidly, "Perhaps the War God could take them all into her harem? Wouldn't it be nice for everyone to live happily and harmoniously together?"
There was a reason she was the female lead. Her vision was on a whole other level.
The trio exchanged looks. Right! Their horizons had been too narrow. They hadn't even considered that possibility.
And so the trio began pulling one another's hair over who should be the War God's chief consort.
Holding the book Wen Maimai had given her, Jiang Miaomiao made up her mind. She would put her talents to use and write a few fan songs for the War God and her men!
The girl's eyes sparkled with hope.
Over the next two days, Ning Xiang saw that Jiang Miaomiao had joined the trio and was getting along quite well with them. Every so often, she even heard them singing together.
As expected of the female lead, her halo really was something else. Under Jiang Miaomiao's guidance, the trio's interests had become much more refined-provided one ignored Bai Yueguang's singing, which sounded like ghosts wailing and wolves howling.
Jiang Miaomiao stayed up late to finish the original novel and Bai Yueguang's fanfiction, then read several hundred Overbearing War God fanfics on Heaven-Question. Still craving more and unable to find anything to fill the void, she turned her attention to... Ning Xiang, her master, and Su Lang...
Her third senior sister was practically cut from the same cloth as that beautiful, formidable War God!
At that moment, Jiang Miaomiao completely forgot that she had once had feelings for her master, her eldest senior brother, her second senior brother, and her fourth senior brother.
I don't deserve them!
Ning Xiang had no idea what Jiang Miaomiao was thinking. The system reminded her:
[Dear host, don't forget that you still have an unfinished side quest.]
And so Ning Xiang went to find Jiang Miaomiao.
"Look, what's this?" Ning Xiang lifted her chin haughtily, showing off like a peacock spreading its tail. "This is the Jade Pendant Eldest Senior Brother gave me. Do you know how important it is to him?"
Jiang Miaomiao's gaze burned.
Ha! She must be heartbroken!
Ning Xiang could already imagine Jiang Miaomiao running off to confront Su Lang, who would try to explain, only for Jiang Miaomiao to insist, "I'm not listening! I'm not listening!" A misunderstanding would arise between them, and Su Lang would decide to take his anger out on her, the vicious supporting female character.
Jiang Miaomiao raised her head, and the emotion on her face...
Ning Xiang couldn't make sense of it either.
Why does she look so thrilled and excited?
She must be so furious that she's lost her head and doesn't know what expression to make, right?
That was Ning Xiang's guess.
Just then, Su Lang happened to pass by.
Ning Xiang grabbed him. "Ask Eldest Senior Brother if you don't believe me."
Both junior sisters looked at him. Su Lang had no idea what was going on, but instinctively replied, "I gave that Jade Pendant to Junior Sister Ning."
Yes, yes. He really knows how to play along.
Ning Xiang nodded in satisfaction, then provoked Jiang Miaomiao again. "What's more, Eldest Senior Brother accepted my Jade Flute."
Jiang Miaomiao's eyes shone even brighter.
"Junior Sister Jiang, don't you have anything to say?" Ning Xiang asked tentatively. "Shouldn't you be utterly heartbroken, your insides torn to shreds?"
Jiang Miaomiao shook her head like a pellet drum. With her left hand, she took Ning Xiang's hand, and with her right, she took Su Lang's. She joined their hands together, then said with heartfelt sincerity, "Senior Brother and Senior Sister, your love is stronger than gold. It's truly enviable."
Ning Xiang: Jiang Miaomiao, has your brain short-circuited???
Then Ning Xiang watched Jiang Miaomiao skip away, shouting joyfully as she ran, "Maimai, my ship is real!!!"
