The director of Lone Warrior planned to enjoy two days off and headed to the river to fish, fully equipped.
His phone had been on silent the whole time. When he finally remembered to check it, he found dozens of missed calls.
"What's going on? Don't tell me they want a refund!"
He was still debating whether to call back when his phone suddenly vibrated, startling him so badly he almost threw it.
Fortunately, he swiped to answer just in time.
"What's up, buddy?" Director Gu asked with a grin.
The man on the other end immediately roared, "When they signed the contracts, did you actually make things clear to them?!"
"Lose, lose, lose! They have to lose in the end!"
"The criminals are so smart they make the Hunters look like idiots! How the fuck are we supposed to film this show?!"
Director Gu froze. "I stressed that they had to lose. Didn't they? Were the missions you set too easy?"
"These guests aren't ordinary people!"
The Hunter Director almost laughed. "Robbing a bank, kidnapping the mayor, taking a school hostage, and making a clean getaway. Go on, tell me which of those was easy!"
Director Gu was even more dumbfounded. "Don't tell me they completed all of them?"
"Heh. They couldn't get a helicopter, so they simulated that part," the Hunter Director said through gritted teeth. "Then they all turned themselves in at the police station so they could eat lunch."
"Pfft-" Director Gu couldn't hold back his laughter. "That really does sound like them."
"Well, they turned themselves in, didn't they? That counts as a win for the Hunters."
"Hah. What a glorious victory."
They hadn't even come face-to-face.
The Hunter Director took a deep breath. "I'll let today slide. If they violate the contract again tomorrow, don't expect any favors for old times' sake. I'll kick you straight out!"
"Don't worry," Director Gu promised, patting his chest. "I'll definitely get the message across!"
After hanging up, he contacted the guests' agents.
But after making the rounds, he discovered to his astonishment-
These guests had already cut off contact?!
During the temporary safe period, Jian Li went for a run by the river in the scenic area after dinner.
His pace was so fast that the cameraman following him couldn't help saying, "Jian Li, you just ate dinner. Exercise this intense will affect your digestion!"
"It's been an hour. I should be fine." Jian Li turned as he spoke and glanced at the cameraman. "You're out of shape. You need to work out."
The cameraman, lugging his camera, wanted to cry. "..."
Easy for you to say. Why don't you try running with a load?!
"Don't act like carrying a camera is such a hardship." Jian Li's breathing remained steady as he ran, and his barbs came just as quickly. "When we filmed on Deserted Island, I ran thirty kilometers with a twenty-kilo pack on my back."
"That little bit of weight you're carrying is nothing."
The cameraman said, "..."
Twenty kilos? Thirty kilometers?!
You've got to be bullshitting me!
[Hahaha, I can vouch for that! It was practically a real-life endurance rally. That was the first time Jian Li really made me see him in a new light!]
[Except for Lu Yuanhang, who faked being sick and didn't finish, every Lone Warrior guest made it back ahead of schedule. With that kind of fitness, playing criminals is no trouble at all!]
[Speaking of criminals, Jian Li and the others were so cool! They reminded me of those classic Hong Kong and Taiwanese crime movies. Genius criminals nobody could catch unless they turned themselves in!]
[Sorry, but I'm siding with the criminals this time too. The Hunters were completely helpless. They didn't even get inside the school in the end and could only watch the helicopter leave!]
[You forgot the idiots still searching for clues in the mayor's office. I'm dying. As if they'd return to the crime scene!]
[Speak of the idiot and he appears. How magical!]
"Jian Li, are you working out?" Lu Yuanhang approached him from the opposite direction.
Jian Li narrowed his eyes. "A good dog stays out of the way."
"Don't misunderstand. I only wanted to say a few words to you," Lu Yuanhang said, looking innocent.
Jian Li didn't waste any more words and barged straight past him. "Plenty of people want to talk to me. Who the fuck do you think you are?!"
Lu Yuanhang lost his balance and fell. When he raised his hand, he saw blood seeping from his palm.
Lu Siqi happened to run up just then. Seeing what had happened, he roared at Jian Li's retreating back, "Get back here and apologize!"
"Or don't blame me for getting rough!"
Hearing him, Jian Li turned his head and jogged in place. "Oh, I'm so scared. Just how rough are you going to get?"
"A stinking loach gets a splash of seawater and thinks it's seafood?!"
[That's our Jian Li. His insults are so satisfying!]
[Doesn't this count as Lu Yuanhang staging an accident? The guy was out for a run, and he insisted on blocking his path to plead his case. Then he got knocked over and acted like he'd been terribly wronged!]
[I've had enough of this foil. Can the scriptwriter kill him off already?!]
Lu Siqi strode over and grabbed Jian Li's arm. "Did you hear what I said?! Go apologize to Yuanhang!"
Jian Li narrowed his eyes, pulled him forward with the momentum, then threw him over his shoulder.
"Aah-" Caught completely off guard, Lu Siqi slammed onto his back and cried out in pain.
Jian Li curled his lips. "'I am sorry.' There, three words for you brothers."
With that, he continued along his planned route.
This time, the cameraman had no complaints and followed closely. After they had run some distance, he cautiously asked, "Jian Li, if I worked out with you every day, could I fight like that too?"
"Doubt it." Jian Li gave him a sidelong glance. "You'd need to up the exercise a bit."
By the time the two brothers, who weren't related by blood, got to their feet, Jian Li was already far away.
"Are you all right?" Lu Yuanhang asked, his eyes full of concern.
Lu Siqi stared into the distance, his lips pressed into a thin line, his extreme displeasure written all over his face.
"It's all my fault. I insisted on explaining things to Jian Li, but now I've only made things worse and caused an even bigger misunderstanding." Lu Yuanhang's voice grew softer as he spoke, looking utterly pitiful.
Lu Siqi frowned irritably and patted Lu Yuanhang's shoulder. "It has nothing to do with you. Jian Li's just gotten far too arrogant."
Watching this scene, the cameraman following them inwardly tore his hair out.
Aaaaaah!
Can't I switch to filming a different pair of guests?!
I really can't take this anymore!
The livestream resumed at the nine o'clock prime-time slot.
Behind the monitors, the director rubbed his hands together excitedly, his eyes gleaming with the certainty of victory.
He looked that way because he had come up with an impossible mission and put it into action.
A prison break!
"Tell every department to keep a close eye on the surveillance feeds. Have the Hunters stay in the security room, and arrange for extras to patrol the detention center."
"Change shifts every ten minutes. Anyone who lets a fugitive escape can collect their pay and leave!"
After speaking, he set down his walkie-talkie, ready to savor the fruits of victory.
After all, if the criminals failed to escape within an hour, they would lose.
When the livestream viewers saw the explanation in the comments, they immediately pulled out their keyboards.
[Director, this is getting a little shameless!]
