During Raphael's previous performance, Amon's postman avatar had said he would come to watch him act.
But Raphael hadn't found Amon's avatar earlier and had assumed he wasn't coming. He hadn't expected him to directly establish a shallow "parasitic" connection with the funeral attendee beside him.
"Amon Avatar" smiled. "It's been a long time since I attended a funeral. When the Death God was still around, he didn't particularly welcome me."
Raphael thought, Doesn't that go for pretty much every god?
He said, "The Death God fell long ago."
No one around them seemed to hear their voices. Everyone was focused on the funeral at the front of the seating area.
Amon Avatar gave a hum of acknowledgment. "But no one expected me to attend his funeral, either, because I wouldn't have been able to resist making a complete mess of such a solemn occasion."
He continued, "Don't let me distract you. Carry on. We can talk afterward."
"All right," Raphael replied, turning his attention back to the funeral.
The priest was speaking in a gentle, mournful tone. "...As you all know, Viscount Darwin was like a resilient oak, firmly rooted, standing strong against wind and rain. Even when violent storms broke some of its branches, that tree remained standing tall.
"Now Viscount Darwin has fallen, but his spirit, as resilient as an oak, has taken deep root in our hearts, as firmly anchored as the roots of a tree..."
Raphael nodded slightly. The priests here had spent their entire lives conducting funerals, and their eulogies were quite accomplished.
Raphael had looked into the matter. Viscount Darwin really hadn't had an easy life. When he inherited his title from his father, the family's affairs were a complete mess.
After more than twenty years of struggle, the family's business had finally
