But this "palace" had no walls blocking their view, so Raphael and the others could see the bed, dressing table, and other furnishings in the "rear chambers." There were also several handsome male corpses. They were not shriveled and had been well preserved, standing motionless like wax figures.

A young woman in a black dress sat at a Southern Continent-style dressing table, applying makeup. Raphael could only see her profile. Her skin looked pale-excessively pale, like that of someone who had drowned.
