In Sorn City's sacrificial hall, Speaker Hadden Hawk had not expected the Oracle to ask about their faith. He knew perfectly well, however, that he had to answer such questions carefully, without making any mistakes that might incur the displeasure of the Oracle or the Lord of Evil Desires.
He answered, "We no longer know what faith we followed back then."
While reading Sorn City's history, Raphael had discovered that the city's faith could chiefly be divided into three stages.
The first stage spanned the Great Cataclysm to roughly the late Fourth Epoch, the second ran from the late Fourth Epoch to about seventy years ago, and the third covered the last seventy years.
According to the historical records, Sorn City's faith during the second stage had been in the "True Creator." During the third stage, they had prayed to various gods and dispatched numerous exploration teams in search of the True Creator's divine kingdom. All these attempts had failed, until the Lord of Evil Desires answered Sorn City's prayers not long ago.
Raphael felt that discovering what they had worshipped during the first stage would greatly help him understand the city's secrets.
Upon hearing Speaker Hadden's answer, he frowned. "You don't know either?"
"Yes." Haden hurriedly explained, "No records or legends from that period remain in Sorn City. About seventy years ago, we did some research as well, only to discover that those thousand-odd years had left no traces at all!"
Raphael nodded. He had already guessed that, when the True Creator first abandoned Sorn City, the city's first response would have been to consult its historical records and resume its former faith.
