The homeless man before Raphael would not survive the night. He was already too weak to converse with Raphael normally.
So Raphael communicated with him through spirituality. The man's spirituality replied, "Resentful? A little, perhaps. But more than that, I miss my child. He was only six when he died in my arms. Fortunately, I'm dying too. We can finally be reunited."

Then Raphael approached a second homeless man on the verge of death. "You must feel terribly bitter, don't you?"
This homeless man also replied through his spirituality, "Yes, so bitter! I shouldn't have let my boy enlist when they were recruiting!
"He was only twenty-two, and he had a beautiful fiancée. But-my son, he died on the battlefield. He's never coming back."
Raphael said, "Then you must hate the Loen government, right?"
"Hate?" Tears streamed from the corners of the homeless man's eyes. "Yes, I hate so much. I hate myself for being useless, for not earning enough money.
"My wife fell ill after our son died.
