Dewinter, the Deputy Director of MI9, came alone. He was not in uniform, wearing somewhat formal clothes instead.
Before he had even gone to work at MI9, he had learned about yesterday's battle between Saints and its outcome.
When Raphael met Dewinter, the two chatted familiarly, like old friends who had not seen each other in years.
Only after they sat down did Dewinter mention that he had heard about the murder of the Saint of Secrets. He vehemently condemned the killer and even hurled a few curses at him.
He ended up cursing Raphael so thoroughly that Raphael had trouble keeping his composure.
Finally, Dewinter said that the Aurora Order could not be without a Saint stationed in Backlund.
Raphael understood now. This Deputy Director of MI9 was giving him a fairly direct warning:
If the Aurora Order lacked sufficient strength, they would terminate their cooperation with it entirely.
Raphael smiled. "Our Vice President, Mr. Freddy, will arrive in Backlund by lunchtime at the latest."
He paused before adding, "Of course, we won't give up our interests in Backlund."
What Raphael said was actually somewhat misleading, because Freddy had said yesterday that he could only stay in Backlund for a week. After that, Raphael would have to call him if anything came up. From the sound of it, there might even be times when he could not get there promptly.
Raphael had no idea what Freddy was busy with in the Feysac Empire. Could it be more important than the Aurora Order's influence and accumulation of wealth in Backlund?
He could more or less guess that the True Creator had entrusted Freddy with something, but Raphael had no interest in the details, so he had no intention of investigating.
What Raphael had just told Dewinter made it sound as
