How to digest the potions

Raphael then asked, "What is a Dao Integrator?"

"A cultivator, as they're called in that world... hmm, a very advanced cultivator," the White Jade Orb said. "All right, that's all we can discuss today. If you have any questions, I'll explain them the next time you advance."

Immediately afterward, the White Jade Orb vanished from Raphael's mind.

Raphael scratched his head. "Every time it appears, it's like an old man's frustration. The one lying in bed still wants more, but he's already finished."

He mulled over their conversation. The True Lord's Jade Body clearly held quite a few secrets, and they seemed to involve some very high-level matters.

He wasn't particularly curious about them, though, because secrets at that level often meant great risks.

To Raphael, there was still a difference between being "crazy" and having a death wish.

Only after reflecting on their conversation did Raphael begin using his spirituality to examine his condition. He soon realized that drinking the Unwinged Angel potion had actually improved it.

He could distinctly feel that, ever since drinking the Werewolf potion, his desire for slaughter and bloodshed had been growing day by day.

According to the Demon Source Scripture, drinking the Unwinged Angel potion at this point was the best remedy.

Of course, the Demon Source Scripture didn't actually use the words "Unwinged Angel," but that was what it meant.

In the world where the Dark Hut existed, there was a distinction between a dual spiritual root and a single spiritual root.

The Dark Hut, for instance, could bestow abilities from two pathways. Some cultivators received abilities similar to those of the Criminal pathway, others received abilities similar to those of the Prisoner pathway, and still others received most of the abilities from both pathways.

The first two were called a "single spiritual root," while the last was called a "dual spiritual root."

Apparently, other sects also had "triple spiritual roots" or "multiple spiritual roots."

The Demon Source Scripture contained not only methods for strengthening the body and training the mind, but also cultivation methods for single and dual spiritual roots. It was practically a step-by-step cultivation manual.

Raphael had benefited enormously from reading those cultivation methods.

It explained that cultivators with a single spiritual root who received abilities similar to the Prisoner pathway could take a Heartless Pill in the late stages of the Mortal Realm... in other words, at Sequence 7, if their progress in cultivating the Demon Source Scripture couldn't keep their desire for slaughter in check.

The Heartless Pill suppressed emotions and made people cold and indifferent, but that happened to counterbalance the desire for slaughter.

Those with a dual spiritual root had no such trouble, because the abilities bestowed upon them by the True Lord's Jade Body were roughly a blend of Werewolf and Unwinged Angel.

Having learned all this beforehand, Raphael found the effect of combining the two potions remarkable, but not unexpected.

Examining his condition now still gave Raphael a pleasant surprise. He discovered that, after taking the Unwinged Angel potion, he wouldn't lose his reason even if he transformed during a full moon.

Still, he couldn't guarantee that his impression was accurate. The full moon was only a few days away, and it would be safer to go to the outskirts of Backlund to transform when the time came.

Next, Raphael began exploring the abilities he had gained. An Unwinged Angel could use minor curses that inflicted harm through spoken words, such as "headache," "stomachache," and "stiff limbs."

He could also summon a small, pale blue fireball.

This fireball burned hotter than ordinary flames, but the most practical use Raphael could think of was, surprisingly, burning corpses.

Its flight speed was too slow when used as an attack, making it easy for a target to dodge.

In addition, Raphael had learned how to concoct several colorless, odorless poisons that could cause gruesome deaths. He could also prepare drugs such as sedatives and laxatives.

As for the physical enhancements provided by Unwinged Angel, they were rather inconsequential to Raphael, since he had already advanced to Werewolf.

Taking a deep breath, Raphael reined in his spirituality, then returned to the coffee table and poured himself a glass of liquor.

After draining it in one go, Raphael sat on the sofa and began considering another question: how could he digest the Werewolf and Unwinged Angel potions?

The Demon Source Scripture made no mention of this, because the manual had been designed for cultivators of the Qi Sect. They didn't need to digest potions, only work hard to cultivate their state of mind and spirit.

The Blood Sect had no concept of potion digestion at all, so he would have to figure that out himself.

In Raphael's view, the Unwinged Angel potion would be relatively easy to digest. First, he needed to be a little more evil and do more bad things.

Whatever a gang boss did, violence was never far removed from it.

He should be able to digest some of the potion simply by being a little more evil and a little crazier.

Moreover, "Unwinged Angel" implied a fall from grace. He needed to consort with evil and indulge wicked desires. Raphael realized that he might have to join a circle more evil than a gang.

Raphael scratched his head. Did that mean going into politics in Loen?

As for digesting the Werewolf potion, Raphael had two different lines of thought. The first leaned toward bloodlust and a love of slaughter.

He could test this idea in future battles by being as brutal as possible when he struck, then observing how much of the potion he digested.

His second idea came from "curse" and "prisoner," the key terms associated with this pathway: a Werewolf was someone cursed, an outcast!

This immediately brought many movie plots to Raphael's mind, such as a kindhearted person being cursed by an evil warlock and turned into a werewolf.

He had a vicious appearance but a kind heart. Yet his good deeds were always misunderstood, until he gradually turned to evil and, after committing a massacre, left the human world behind for good.

And he knew perfectly well that he was no beast; he still retained plenty of humanity.

Thus, he became an outcast from the entire world!

Raphael mulled it over. The second approach was probably more accurate, but he had no idea how to act it out in practice.

After thinking a little longer, Raphael realized that he could write to Audrey and ask her to contact someone from the Temperance Faction, then seek their advice on acting as a Werewolf. At worst, he would have to pay some gold pounds or offer something else in exchange.

At the end of their last conversation, Maric had said Raphael could come to him at any time, but he hadn't left any means of contacting him.

Raphael could therefore only contact Maric through Audrey. As for contacting Audrey, they had already agreed during their last exchange that he could simply write to her directly.

After smoking another cigarette, Raphael returned to bed to rest.

The next day, just as Raphael was about to have a subordinate mail his letter to Audrey, an unexpected visitor arrived.
