The Wraith from the Rose School stood frozen as he watched Raphael knock other Beyonders flying with a Sequence 5 corpse while attacking with his Beyonder abilities, seemingly at a loss for how to react.
They were both Wraiths, but the gap between them was simply too great.
Only a few seconds into the battle, an Astronomer was already dead, and a Reaper and a Demoness of Affliction were gravely injured. The Demoness of Affliction, in particular, had collapsed before she could use a single ability. Several seconds had passed, yet she still seemed unable to recover from the enemy's Beyonder attack.
As for the Sequence 6 and lower-sequence Beyonders who had been hit, there was no question of light or serious injuries. They had been killed outright.
Just then, Raphael hurled several ice arrows at the Rose School's Wraith. The Wraith seemed to snap out of his stupor. He threw several ice arrows of his own, then turned and fled.
But he had taken only one step when his spirituality seemed to sense danger. Following its warning, he glanced back, just in time to see the enemy's ice arrows shatter his own and pierce his body an instant later.
At first, the Wraith thought that, since he was currently in spirit form, the ice arrows would have difficulty doing much damage to him.
The instant that thought occurred to him, pain twisted his face. He discovered that the ice arrows had punched several holes even through his spirit body.
