The enormous Feathered Serpent before the Lord of Evil Desires should have been the true form of the Underworld Emperor, Salinger.

Moreover, the Lord of Evil Desires knew very well that these were the Underworld Emperor's remains after the Evernight Goddess had dealt with them. Had they been the Death God's unaltered remains, Raphael's spirit body might already have been sent to the Netherworld.
Unlike the phantom at the bottom of the stairs, this Feathered Serpent was tangible. Its enormous head was raised high, and its entire body was covered in huge scales of a dark green so deep they looked black. Pure white feathers grew between them, with strange symbols of different shapes on every feather and scale. An exaggeratedly large pair of thick wings spread from its back.
It looked more like a combination of a serpent and a phoenix.
The Lord of Evil Desires could sense through his spirituality that it was utterly dead.
