Mateo hurried into an alley and glanced back in panic. When he saw that his pursuers had not followed, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Panting heavily, he leaned against the wall and slid to the ground.
Pulling open his shirt, Mateo saw the bloody, mangled wound in his abdomen. His face twisted with pain as he closed his shirt again.
Mateo was a Serial Killer, but a Devil had just hunted him down. Fortunately, he had experienced a few extraordinary encounters, or he would never have escaped.
After resting briefly, Mateo struggled to his feet and ran toward the other end of the alley. He would only be safe once he left Bayam.
When he reached the middle of the alley, Scarface, a man in his thirties, blocked the far end.
Fear rose in Mateo's heart. That was the very Devil who had been chasing him.
He turned and ran the other way, but after only two steps, he seemed to hear a sudden boom. All the strength in his body seemed to erupt at once, then vanish without a trace. His vision went black, and he nearly fainted.

Trembling all over, he fell to his knees and looked ahead in despair. At some point, an attractive woman had appeared there.
