Raphael knew how to seize an opportunity in battle.
When he saw the monster Bennett had become after losing control crawl out of its shell-like flesh, he immediately understood that the defense a Zombie took such pride in had become an obstacle to its further transformation.
The reason that flesh resembled a hard shell was probably that it still retained some of Bennett's will.
This was not hard to understand. After all, Bennett had lost control very quickly, and the earlier struggle between reason and madness had carried over into his body.
The monster did not want to be confined by that shell, so it had "crawled" out.
But this gave Raphael an opening. He drove the iron pipe through the monster's head.
Yet even damage to its brain could no longer stop the monster from continuing to mutate.
So Raphael jumped down from the wall again. He could actually have waited a little longer, until the mindless monster exposed another weakness.
But the negative effect of the Hypnosis Ring manifested. Raphael followed the call in his heart, deciding to indulge in one last bout of madness at the end of the battle.
After jumping down, he gripped the iron pipe running through its head and twisted hard with both hands, wrenching its head off!
At the same time, the headless monster wrapped its swollen internal organs around Raphael and rapidly tightened them, as though trying to devour him.
He let out a roar, resisted the urge to bite, and poured spirituality into the ring on his other hand.
That ring had been his payment from the female Living Corpse he had met in the forest under the full moon. It was a Mystical Item corresponding to a Sequence 8 Physician, and he had named it the Surgical Ring.
