Raphael had never expected this. Why hadn't these spies fled as soon as they were discovered?
But a moment later, he understood. Their opponent was a Sequence 5.
A Beyonder at that level could escape with ease even if they couldn't win, as long as no Demigod intervened.
So at this Sequence, they would always try to maximize their gains if there were no enemies at the same level.
If that failed, they could simply leave.
Paul charged at Raphael and Xio, intending to injure one of them before taking Cazzari away. Otherwise, it would be difficult to carry a seriously wounded man out under attack from two Sequence 6 Beyonders.
"Exile!" He intended to banish the tough, thick-skinned Raphael, then injure Xio, who was one Sequence below him, as quickly as possible.
Raphael smiled. He hadn't wanted to take part in this fight to begin with, so he offered no resistance as an enormous force pushed him away.
Xio also noticed Raphael's halfhearted response. She considered herself merely an informant for MI9, so she quickly withdrew to the side as well.
The Disciplinary Paladin, Paul, realized that neither Sequence 6 seemed interested in fighting. With a faint smile, he immediately leaped down to the street to rescue his companion.
Several armed Mafia members had surrounded Cazzari, but none had fired because their boss hadn't given the order.
Ignoring these ordinary people entirely, Paul prepared to hoist Cazzari onto his back. But he immediately discovered that Cazzari's sternum was broken, leaving him no choice but to carry him in his arms.
As Paul picked him up, the severely wounded Cazzari endured the excruciating pain and cast a cold look at Raphael on the rooftop. He had seen their voluntary retreat and assumed that the two Sequence 6 Beyonders were afraid.
