Jeremiah Blitz felt that he was truly cursed. Not long after his merchant vessel entered the Warp, the Great Word Bearer and the Lord of Red Sands launched the Shadow Crusade. The raging Ruinstorm trapped him in the Warp for who knew how many years.
When he finally escaped the Warp and headed for Terra, Sevatar, who had come to deliver a message, caught him red-handed. The Raven Prince successfully used their ship to relay the message to Terra.
But after Sevatar left his vessel, the last descendant of a Rogue Trader family from the Five Hundred Worlds received a stern notice from the Imperial Fists.
His Destiny Bestowed, a converted Lunar-class cruiser, had been requisitioned by the Imperial Navy and incorporated into a massive fleet. As for Jeremiah himself, he was drafted into the 177th Terra Solar Auxilia Regiment.
In the tide of the times, even someone of his status and reputation had no choice at all. The Imperium needed to unite every force it could gather. This was not a request, but a naked command.
By the time Jeremiah was handed a lasrifle and fitted with finely crafted carapace armor and a miniature power pack, he had become a proud new recruit of the Solar Auxilia.
His physical condition was excellent. With only a certain amount of specialized military training, he could join the war.
The one thing worth being glad about was that Jeremiah's former subordinates had also been incorporated, and they had been assigned to the same infantry regiment. The Rogue Trader was able to remain with his old friends.
Over the past few months, Jeremiah had suffered through grueling day-after-day training, but at least his safety had been guaranteed. Terra was humanity's Throne World; it had to be the safest place in the entire galaxy.
