"Whooo... whoo..."
A gust set the flame in the little girl's lamp flickering. The windproof lamp used porcelain pieces to focus the light, with a semicircular side to shelter the flame, but it was no use against the erratic winds now blowing.
After the flame had flickered for a while, a colder gust snuffed it out.
With the candle suddenly extinguished, the entire shelter area plunged into darkness. Before their eyes could adjust, the young physician, the little girl, and the others felt as though they could not see their own hands before their faces.
"Cough, cough, cough." "Cough, cough..."
Only coughing remained around them, interspersed with murmurs from the disaster victims and the recurring rush of wind.
The heat that had lingered for so long seemed to vanish in a single gust, leaving people feeling almost cold.
His earlier assessment, combined with the darkness now surrounding him, stirred a wave of fear in the young physician, so strong that he felt an urge to flee.
Moreover, he seemed to feel his own throat beginning to itch, as though he wanted to cough. Goosebumps rose over his skin in waves, leaving him momentarily at a loss.
"Doctor, Doctor, how is my mother? She'll be all right, won't she?"
The little girl's voice pulled the physician out of his unease and made him start. Then he slapped his own face with a smack.
Hu Kuangming, you are a healer!
"She'll be all right, but we need medicinal herbs."
As he spoke, Hu Kuangming looked around.
"This cannot go on. Things will get worse if it does. We must get the Imperial Court involved! We must-"
Before Hu Kuangming could finish, a cold gleam flashed before him. The fleeting sword blade passed a mere three inches from his forehead.
Whoosh!
