A Wandering Spirit approached like a streak of light and stepped into the smoke-wreathed City God Hall. Yet the hall he entered held smoke but no worshippers. Seated on the altar was the City God, his eyes closed.
"Lord City God, a great number of ghosts have suddenly appeared in the city, but divine light shines upon them. A divine figure in blue robes, holding a golden brush, leads the way as they roam about the city."
The City God of Deng Province opened his eyes and slowly rose from the altar, seeming to shake incense ash from his body as wisps of smoke drifted from him.
With a few strides, the City God had left the City God Hall. The instant he stepped through its doors, worshippers came and went outside; a few more strides brought the bustling lantern fair before his eyes.
In the City God's sight, those distant ghosts could be seen soaring through the air. Each invariably had divine light shining from somewhere on its body, like some kind of mark.
"Lord City God, we dared not act on our own judgment and merely observed from afar. These ghosts have shown no sign of harming anyone or trying to evade us. That divine figure's presence is so formidable that we Wandering Spirits dared not obstruct him lightly!"
