The banquet in the Imperial Palace broke up early, but outside the palace, things were different. Plenty of people were still waiting to watch the fireworks.
At midnight on New Year's Eve, the Capital City's fireworks would be especially dazzling, even though nighttime restrictions in the city had been relatively strict lately.
By the time Yan Shouyun finished all the food, he felt he had become quite familiar with the little marten.
The little marten beside him clearly wasn't afraid of people. After all, whenever he had offered it something just now, the little fellow had accepted it quite naturally.
That wasn't hard to understand, though. It was a storyteller's pet marten, so it must have long since grown used to crowds.
Clouds had now veiled the light of the stars and moon. Yan Shouyun patted the dust off his backside and stood.
"I still need to find somewhere to spend the night. Looks like it's going to rain tonight."
As Yan Shouyun spoke, he looked around the city.
"Chirp, chirp~~"
The marten's cries drew Yan Shouyun's attention. He looked down beside his feet, only to see the little marten dart away.
"Hey, you're running off now that you've eaten? Some friend you are!"
The marten ran to another corner of the restaurant roof, then turned and called to Yan Shouyun again.
"Chirp, chirp~~"
"Hmm?"
Yan Shouyun looked toward the sound and saw the little marten standing there, watching him.
Does it want me to follow?
"Uh, you want me to come over?"
"Chirp, chirp~"
The marten cried again, then suddenly leaped into the air. The move gave Yan Shouyun a fright, but instead of falling, it landed on the slightly lower roof opposite.
That gap had to be at least thirty feet wide. Yan Shouyun stared in a daze.
