Admittedly, the righteous side also bore responsibility for the outbreak of the war between the Righteous and Unorthodox Paths. The karmic ledger of deaths and injuries could likewise be reckoned against them.
Had they not fought the Unorthodox Path here, ordinary mortals would not have suffered so readily.
But this was no reason to hesitate or waver, let alone shake their conviction in the Dao and submit to the Unorthodox Path.
Nor did the Righteous Path need to fall into a moral trap, be deceived by the sophistry and schemes of the Unorthodox Path, and take unnecessary responsibility upon itself.
Otherwise, they would ultimately become nothing more than indiscriminately kind fools without principles.
For this reason, sages of old had long proposed that only pragmatism and the pursuit of truth offered a clear road to carrying out justice.
Justice certainly did not mean doing good without principles, nor did it mean standing on the moral high ground to pass judgment on the world, lamenting spring and mourning autumn over innocent victims, or wallowing in self-pity over one's own mistakes.
Neither did it mean indulging in fantasies, acting recklessly according to one's preferences and beliefs, heedless of reality and without regard for the future.
Everyone had their own Dao in their heart. The philosophy of the Dao Path inherited from Fang Qianyuan and the Azure Cloud Sect's lineage, and even from the Heavenly Dao Alliance over the past thousand years, was to pursue truth pragmatically, keep one's feet firmly on the ground, and carry out the Dao of justice.
