Fang Qianyuan had never expected the Supreme Heaven Sect and the Heavenly Realms Sect to be so deeply entangled with the Spirit-Taming World.
But as Elder Long explained, he gradually came to understand the roots of this situation.
In the cultivation world, on one side were the free and loosely organized grassroots forces that needed to grow. Mortal commoners, and even ordinary cultivators, had limited natural talent and could not touch the origin of the Great Dao. What they needed were more accessible, simpler, and more effective methods of cultivation.
Every tradition, philosophy, and inheritance had arisen to serve this purpose.
At the same time, however, the mighty figures at the top wished to advance further and pursue immortality and imperishability.
The opposition this provoked, even mortal enmity, had never been uncommon throughout history.
Different groups, different forces, different camps...
Their interests, backgrounds, and positions ultimately led them to choose opposing sides.
Both the Supreme Heaven Sect and the Heavenly Realms Sect were merely products born upon this foundation.
But unlike the righteous and unorthodox paths, which concerned themselves with goodness and order, the opposition between the two sects revolved around something far deeper and more conceptual.
That concept arose from the Great Dao, like yin and yang dividing into two poles, yet remaining harmoniously united.
It knew neither good nor evil, distinguished neither righteousness nor wickedness, and concerned itself with neither chaos nor order. It could even be said to represent nothing more than the abstraction of "contradiction and opposition."
If such ideas as good and evil, righteousness and wickedness, order and chaos had ultimately evolved into the righteous and unorthodox paths and their two opposing organizations, the Heavenly Dao Alliance and the Demon Alliance, then this concept of contradiction and opposition had evolved into the Supreme Heaven Sect
