Three types of evolvers
To be honest, Ben felt more shocked-or, more precisely, frightened-than anything else.
"Dr. Aven... has my condition gotten worse again...?"
Only then did he finally feel the pain from the blisters at the corners of his mouth.
"Hiss..."
What could Aiven say? His eyes were wider than anyone else's.
What kind of complication was this? How did it work? Spontaneous human combustion?
Or perhaps it wasn't a disease at all!
"Excuse me, sir, what exactly is happening to Ben? As his attending physician, I would like to understand every aspect of his condition."
Allen was the first to question Huang Jiutian. Everyone else present wanted to know the same thing, so nobody interrupted him.
Jiu Tian looked toward Tao Xingzhi and only began explaining after receiving a nod of confirmation.
"Evolvers, or New Humans, represent one possible direction for future human evolution. Or perhaps they're the result of genetic selection amid the changes taking place in the world..."
Aiven was rather bewildered. Although he was these patients' attending physician, he had been kept in the dark all along. He wasn't even authorized to examine the Flame Demon's corpse, which was practically within arm's reach.
Some of what Huang Jiutian was saying went beyond his normal understanding.
But Aiven had a good habit: when he didn't understand something, he listened first rather than interrupting.
"Based on our country's current research and deductions, evolvers can be divided into three types. The first is natural genetic selection, the second is passive anomalous erosion, and the third-the most mysterious-is what we call awakening evolution."
As Huang Jiutian delivered his explanation, most people remained utterly confused, while Norton became increasingly aware that their shortcomings in responding to the world's changes far exceeded his expectations.
"Then which type does Ben fall into?"
