"Tap." "Tap." "Tap." ...
The footsteps continued receding, almost reaching the church doors.
Despite his weak legs, Blaze tried to stand, only to fall straight to the floor.
"Wait! What was that thing on me just now?"
But the mysterious man did not stop. Blaze immediately had his two henchmen help him up and chase after him.
By the time the two men helped him outside the church, however, there was no one in sight, only the silent darkness of night.
He returned to the church in a daze, shards of glass crunching beneath his feet.
"Father... what was that just now?"
Blaze did not really expect the priest to answer. After all, he had been in quite a sorry state himself.
The priest was older and regained his composure more quickly than the younger men.
"I don't know who that man was, but surely he wasn't someone evil."
He remembered what the man had said while looking at him.
"Blaze, I know you aren't a devout believer, and I know you probably do some less-than-honorable things. But I still hope you'll return to the right path soon. At least God hasn't forsaken you."

Although the priest did not know who the man was, Blaze was undoubtedly lucky. Anyone with any sense could tell that something terrifying must have latched onto him, and the mysterious man had appeared and destroyed it swiftly and cleanly.
Surely only God's protection could have granted him such good fortune.
Normally, while Blaze did not resent the priest's advice, he would simply laugh it off and let it go in one ear and out the other.
