Chapter 183: The forgotten nightmare
Mrs. Ruby did not actually look fat. At most, she carried a little extra flesh, but her large frame made her look rather big overall.
After giving birth, however, she felt she had been gaining weight and aging rapidly. She wanted to lose weight all the time, yet had never succeeded.
Hearing her excited shout, her husband came out of the bathroom with a toothbrush between his teeth and looked around.
"Oh, congratulations! But darling, people's weight naturally fluctuates at different times because of things like water retention..."
Before he could finish, he noticed his wife's unfriendly expression and promptly shut up to concentrate on brushing his teeth.
Of course Mrs. Ruby understood what her husband was saying. But she had been weighing herself every morning for a long time, and she could tell whether she had really lost weight.
Happily, she fetched her phone from the table, stepped back onto the digital scale, and opened the camera, framing both her feet and the scale's reading.

Her weight-record photo was taken.
Then, grinning, she opened WeChat and posted an update with the photo. Compared with Twitter and Facebook, she preferred this newly popular app for sharing personal things. It offered better privacy, and interacting with everyone was easy and pressure-free.
"Woke up this morning and discovered that my ongoing weight-loss efforts have finally paid off! Down 1 kilogram!"
Alongside it, she added a photo she had taken just a few days earlier.
Notifications for likes and comments immediately began chiming nonstop.
Mr. Ruby had applied shaving gel and was ready to shave, but he still felt mentally exhausted.
He glanced at his wife, who was now so excited she seemed ten years younger.
"Women..."
After posting her update, Mrs. Ruby habitually refreshed her feed
