Chapter 184: Luna and "fire"
Kesby went to see his friend that evening.
To be honest, Kesby himself hadn't been sleeping well lately and felt drained all day, but his friend and his wife were in even worse shape.
He hadn't seen them for only four days, yet their skin already looked waxy and yellow, with puffy bags beneath their sunken eyes.
Mr. Ruby gave him quite a fright when he opened the door.
"Say, Borna Ruby, what have you two been up to? Too much sex?"
Kesby teased him.
"You're the one having too much sex. We've just been really tired these past two days. Come in. The mirror's in the living room."
Dinner was ready, and the mirror sat nearby. Luna was the only member of the family who looked a little more energetic, but she was sitting on the sofa with her plate.
When she saw Kesby come in, she called sweetly, "Uncle Kesby."
"What a good girl, Luna. Why aren't you eating at the table?"
Mrs. Ruby invited Kesby to sit down and served him a pan-fried steak with side dishes.
"Don't mind her. She says she feels uncomfortable at the table, that it scares her. I don't know what nonsense she's talking about."
As an outsider, Kesby merely smiled, then glanced at the mirror sitting so incongruously in the very center of the table.
"Don't you find it strange to put a mirror on the table while you eat?"
Mrs. Ruby sat down directly opposite the mirror with a cheerful smile.
"What's strange about it? I think I look lovely in this mirror!"
