Chapter 253: The Family's Secret
Old Chacus's funeral had come to an end.
The friends and relatives returned to Charkus Manor. After dinner, they would go their separate ways, returning to their work, studies, and everyday lives.
That evening, the long dining table in the manor's dining room was filled with friends and relatives.
Several long tables had been joined together and covered with pristine white tablecloths. Aside from the two ends, each side could seat dozens of people.
As the man about to inherit the title and become the new baron, and the current head of Charkus, Hilbert took the seat at the head of the table without hesitation.
Charkus Manor attached particular importance to this final meal after bidding farewell to the old baron. Some of his old friends might be difficult to see again in the future.
Dinner was prepared by Portman, the manor's chef, with help from teams hired from several restaurants in town. Apart from a few traditional culinary "horrors" from the United Kingdom, the menu leaned toward a diverse selection of world-renowned cuisine.
There were thick cuts of steak, cooked to each guest's preferred doneness; foie gras and caviar prepared to special recipes; and popular Chinese dishes such as sweet-and-sour ribs and kung pao chicken.
Glasses were raised around the table in a warm, convivial atmosphere as everyone shared amusing stories and memories.
Hilbert cut his steak, eating as he gazed absently at his wineglass.
For the time being, Hilbert had told no one, not even his mother, that he had personally destroyed evil spirits. It was not because he did not want to share the news.
