Chapter 446: The Bashful Demon Eye
The reconnaissance aircraft in the formation swept one after another into the military lines outside the danger zone.
Aboard the two-seat lead aircraft, an air force lieutenant colonel watched the radar screen and looked down through the canopy. Everything was pitch-black; at that altitude, he could make out nothing with the naked eye.
Without the lights of human civilization, the former city no longer glittered like a field of stars in the night.
The lieutenant colonel then gave his wingman an order.
"We're descending!"
"Roger!"
The reconnaissance aircraft began descending from seven or eight thousand meters to fly at lower altitudes.
Since conditions at the contact points had begun deteriorating, low altitudes-especially extremely low altitudes close to the ever-taller treetops-were no longer safe for some slower aircraft. Even supersonic fighters capable of tremendous speeds would not fly low without good reason.
Especially at night.
Still, reconnaissance aircraft had to keep carrying out surveillance missions. Although the three satellites overhead had reconnaissance capabilities, there were too few of them, and their orbits were arranged primarily to meet humanity's communication needs.
The two J-Type Fighter Reconnaissance Aircraft were headed for a large contact point. No matter how many demons they detected along the way, the pilots ignored them.
The thermal scanners were already active. Some demons could evade these devices, and they were almost useless against magic beings on their guard, but most demons still had very distinct heat signatures.
White dots appeared across the ruined city on the scanning displays, growing more numerous as the aircraft approached.
Judging by their movements, they were all heading toward the outside of the contact point. Yet once the aircraft actually reached the vicinity of its center, the number of white dots dwindled instead.
"Looks like there really aren't
